Marsden Hartley (1877 - 1943)

I have been reading about Marsden Hartley's life, in particular why he went to Germany in 1913 and how he was an important influence on Gertrude Stein. This video on Hartley is fascinating: it shows many of his paintings that were not known to me before and it has intelligent interviews with a few artists in their studio settings. We are so lucky to live in a time when we have access to a world of information. The visual arts, like classical music, are a never-ending journey of discovery for me; I discover something new almost every day, thanks to the electronic Global Village, as Marshall McLuhan called it.
