Levelling up my art ( Help :) )

I sometimes feel like the way I paint isn't really that good. I mean I do occasionally get results I'm happy with. But I always feel like I could improve. I just can't put my finger on what it is. Looking at tutorials does not help either as they all aim to produce images with a different look than mine.

I have tried to find examples of paintings made by established artists which I like and are in a style similar to my own. I will present a selection of their work. And afterwards some of mine. My hope is that you, by comparing the sets, might be able to identify some things I can work on.

At a glance the illusion of depth and atmosphere seems more present in the display of the other artists. Value and color to create the illusion of depth. The reason I think so is even though the other artist works are not realistic in expression, they are realistic in feel. Each color has a reason and helps the inner eye think it sees reality. Humans like to recognize things and if you give them enough they will establish reality.

I think you are on to something important. I know my work tend to be a bit mid tone centric. I will add this to the list of things to work on - incorporating a fuller tonal range in my pictures. Thanks a lot. An insightful comment.
