Last Light

The light on the tops of these trees caught my attention so I snapped a few photos from the passenger seat of the car. Autumn colors are so hard to do and I know these aren't quite right but maybe I came close to the light effect I wanted. I borrowed fields from both sides to fill in for the highway. 9x9 acrylic on watercolor paper

Thanks Bethany, Wayne and Bart. My photo makes the trees look a little more red than golden but it was fun trying to get that glow.

Thank you Jade.
Thanks Sno - I decided to leave out the highway and power poles between the trees (haha).

Autumn colors are so hard, it's like our colors can't compete with nature. Donna, your landscape is amazing! Soft and atmospheric. Mist and so much light. Love this one!

Hi Grapes and thanks for such a nice comment. I may have overdone it with soft edges but acrylics dry so fast and I was trying to keep the hard edges from taking over. Trying to lighten the values of the leaves without adding white was such a challenge as well.

Hi Jo, Paula Ford was the Tree Queen! Her work was very inspiring to me and she was generous in sharing her helpful demos. I was a total beginner in pastels and she always gave kind advice. Thank you so much.

So soft and tender....a lovely rendering. I'm with Jo, I thought this was a pastel painting at first.

Excellent handling of the acrylics! I do enjoy your abstracts, but paintings like these are your superpower. ;)
