I've loved these works for years.
I was especially enamored of the unpainted sculpture of Tilman Riemenschneider. I actually looked into an apprenticeship with a German woodcarving sculptor... but my efforts in sculpture were enough to teach me that thinking in sculptural terms was not my strong suit. I did end up making a good number of woodblock prints, however.
