For what it’s worth, in the several hundred tests I’ve done of AI by doing simple searches where I knew the answers, AI got only one right as I recall.
Here’s a sad example of an incorrect, and ridiculous AI answer…..
My question was, “Has T CrB gone nova yet?
Background: T CrB is a star that is known to be a recurring nova. Approximately every 80 years, it goes nova, which brightens it for a bit, before it goes quiet again.
There has been excitement as we await the next eruption, but according to credible sources, including AAVSO, it has not yet gone nova again, although it is due any time now.
Answer given by AI correctly states that it has NOT gone nova yet, as of today, Feb. 14, 2026, but then goes on to say that it IS EXPECTED TO (present tense) between March and October LAST YEAR (2025).

AI pieces together sentences that sometimes sound grammatically correct, but AI has no actual understanding of ANYTHING.

Exactly right. I mean I’m old enough now in my 50s that I can easily detect some things that are wrong. But the young people who haven’t had enough years under their belt yet would not know the difference. I’m only catching it because it’s obvious to me from my life experience.
I have only been dropping by now and then; I didn't know about the surgery.Hi all. I've been meaning to write something for a while now but I'm still not fully myself since the surgery. I'm sorry for that and for disappointing everyone. I wish I could say that it was a matter of reconsidering, but it's not. It's a matter of someone else taking over the forum. That's really all we can offer before March 5th or 6th. So far there's only been one person that's interested in trying to learn the software but I don't think Hannah has heard anything from them in a little while. We will keep you updated if anything changes or what the status is as soon as we know. In the meantime, please know that I am honored to have helped to create such a wonderful community, but all of you are more responsible for that than I'll ever be.
