Day 2 of self indulgence ..

Well, I was looking at the artist paints and as of today, they are not for me. I figure I can paint 90 paintings of the size above and all for 10.00 in paint. The paint I am using surely has some deficiencies but I can work around them for the most part. I just need to understand what they do under the duress I cause them and we'll get along just fine. Today I put a thin layer of acrylic gesso on the back of the paper in the hope the resist would work against the resist from the paint to be applied to the other side and one would cancel the other. Not quite dry; not quite flat, but much flatter than yesterdays. So tomorrow a little thicker on the gesso. Paint wise this one is better than yesterday; opinion only of course.

Thanks John. Anything is usable when you know its strength and weakness and hopefully I can figure that out. Too early to know how it will all end but there seems some fun days ahead while experimenting.

Those thick juicy brushstrokes give this beautiful still life away as being yours, Wayne. If the CAP’s (cheap ass paints) are working for you all the better! If you truly despise starting out on a white surface try mixing all your leftover paint to get some kind of neutral. Then mix in enough white gesso to get the tone you want and apply this to your next sheet of paper. The gesso gives a little tooth for the first layer to stick to. I look forward to your next experiment!
