Animal And Wildlife Challenge Oct/Nov 2025

Thank you Wayne.. I appreciate you saying that! I actually do find generally I enjoy the process and when things come out well too, then it's a bonus 😅

Thanks Grapes! I noticed your penguins white feet 🐧I liked the way you did them and the shading of his little toes. I also referenced your picture generally as you did it and the shading so well. Yes.. it's a very good practice for that. Your hb and 2b pencil tip worked well too btw.

Thank you Grapes! ❤️ It is nice to just get in the flow and let go of perfectionism...

Jade - Lovely drawing of the kitty. Her eyes are beautiful and great drawing
of the little penguin.
Cheers
Patricia

I got a little behind in the comments...
Grapes, your penguin is wonderful! Thanks for the tips on the shading.
Jade, you get better and better. I love the eyes on your cat and your cute penguin.

Please excuse the red eraser marks to the right and thanks to @Grapes for shading inspiration.

Another good one. When shading thing of an oval as it has a light, middle, and dark, to give it form. All things use that same principle.

Thanks Wayne. Grapes drawing also helped a lot in seeing where she shaded. Yes, I can see that, a bird is a lot of little curves and hills ... Learning where the light and shadows are.

Lovely drawing of the woodpecker Jade. 👏
Cheers

I picked up some caran d'ache neocolour 2 water soluble crayons today (for £2!) and had a try with the bear. I need to practice more. Eyes 👀 were the trickiest part with less control. Looking forward to learning more. Any tips appreciated too. ❤️

Jade, looking good, l like the light vs. dark fur colors. The pose is really well done with nose foreshortened and looks like a real bear. 🐻
Your drawing reminds me to finish my drawing of this bear but keep forgetting to finish it. I have trouble with the things I mention above. I really like how yours is now. Mine is more like a panda 🐼 😅
Well done 👏.
PS. The eyes .. in the ref. they are really small. I have them in my drawing too large. The eyes in the ref. don't really have anything going on but two small dots, don't you think?

Aw thanks Grapes. I appreciate your kind feedback. You are right about the eyes, I kept looking at them but they were black dots really, not even much reflection. The crayons are a bit stumpy for the details like that but I'm sure I'll get used to them. I bet yours looks good though 😊 look forward to seeing it.

I agree with Grapes that you have done a good job with the pose, fur direction and general feel. It's always a challenge when you start playing around with a new medium.

If you want to get some fine details with the Caran D'Ache crayons, you can use a damp brush to pick up a little color from the crayon and use it like watercolor.
