I called this, Abstraction, because the surface looks like it is being separated from itself, if this makes sense.

As the Tate has it.

Strictly speaking, the word abstract means to separate or withdraw something from something else.

A representational painter could quite easy produce an abstract by enlarging, by reducing and reproducing a portion of a landscape, Stilllife, whatever.
 
Yes, it's a little alarming how the black shape seems to be breaking free and escaping its confines. Very neat 3-D effect!
 
The abstraction could be shedding a layer of what it represents if it suggests something concrete.
 
This is a nice one - I like your rectangle within a rectangle. Good strong colors. Good job!
