It handles a little differently and it doesn't lift once it's dry. It makes it easier to get some intense colors since it can take many layers without dissolving the previous ones. The downside is you can't lift for highlights or cleaning up edges. There's always a tradeoff!
I also scribble on a pallette and then pick it up with a damp brush like watercolor. I don't use the pencils directly on the paper.
