Urban Sketchers Chennai met yesterday morning to sketch at the junction of Woods Road and Anna Salai. I could not attend, but I had time to kill yesterday afternoon, and therefore decided to sketch Gove Building (which houses the Mercedes-Benz showroom) and is located at this junction, from a photograph posted on Facebook
n the Urban Sketchers Chennai group.

This heritage building was designed by J. H. Stephens of the Madras PWD, built in 1916, and was originally called the Cuddon Building. Its name was changed to Gove Building when VST Motors bought the building in 1943.

My pen and ink sketch is 15 cms x 20 cms and was done with a flex nib pen.

Very well done - figures really add to this. I was on holiday a while and am "catching up" on so many things.

Thank you Joy.

Although this sketch is about the building, I tried to sketch the figures in the foreground faithfully so that each person is actually identifiable.

Yes, I could tell each person is different and a "portrait" of those you know. That is really commendable to be able to portray with a minimum of strokes.
