I spend a day thinking and tinkering and in the morning when fresh I paint what happens as I try to paint my idea. I then use that painting to try and influence my next idea. As Vincent said, " I dream my paintings, then I paint my dream". It's good when both worlds co-exist. Painting is the fast part, usually under an hour.
