The fields are pretty at this time of year and we get some interesting clouds up above. I don't know what the dark clouds are called but they just hang there and don't give us any rain. This was my first time painting on a board instead of paper and I tried a few new colors in very small amounts: Naples yellow and ultramarine violet. Any colors that help me make clouds are worth it. The leftovers were mixed with cold wax to make the little abscrap.
Painting is 8x10 oil on board, abscrap is 6x6 oil and cold wax on paper.

Beautiful painting Donna and I always like the abscraps you make too. I think you're in the U.S? The landscape looks very like where I live in the UK too.

Very beautiful and dramatic. I used to scrape my scraps together and make dreys. I then put them in a dollar store air thigh container. They last for days. I’m not sure how long as I painted most days.

How long have you been painting Wayne?

Thanks so much Joe, Jade, Wayne, Sandra and Anne. I always appreciate the feedback!

Jade, I'm in Idaho - western US.
Wayne, I have yet to save my grays because I use them for the scraps but I do want to try it. I could just mix all grays and be happy.

This is a little gem! How did you find painting on board? I have painting on ACM panels that I prep myself and a few small wood panels. I like their smoothness a lot.

Thank you Bethany. So far I like painting on boards. These are some a friend found in a thrift shop that I have to gesso. On days when I don’t feel like painting it’s good to have a mindless gesso job.

Thanks Bart. I had to do a lot of layering and repainting to get the little abscrap to work. The oil/wax mixture makes for some good textures to paint over once it gets a little bit dry so I try not to get frustrated.

Thank you Jo and Grapes. The yellows/golds of the field were intensified by my camera but I’m glad you think the colors work.
