Semmozhi Poonga is the name of a small botanical park in the heart of Chennai. Finally, after more than two years, my wife and I met up and sketched on location with our Chennai Weekend Artists (now Arts Society of Chennai) friends. During the last two and a half years or so I had sketched only once outdoors on location. That was at Dakshina Chitra, a heritage museum, with my first year students. I find the act of sketching on location and from life particularly satisfying and invigorating. And this is very much enhanced when it is done among friends, as happened yesterday.

My sketch is approximately 15 cm x 21 cm in a 300 gsm watercolour sketchbook. I started the sketch with the intention of doing some minimal ink lines, with a Sakura 2 mm calligraphy sketch pen, and then adding colour washes. But I found it very satisfying to sketch with the pen and decided to continue with it.

Very nice! Glad you stuck with just the black pen, I think color would detract. ❤️
