Scored some cigar boxes

Hi folks, I'm a pipe smoker, and the other day I happened past an outlet that sells tobacco and cigars. On the off chance, and at a niggling thought from a while back, I stopped in. Asked if they had and empty cigar boxes for my art supplies. They showed me to a pile of about 100 to pick from!
Long story short, I now have 3 nice boxes I can turn into Pochards. The lids sit back at just the right angle for me and hold a nice sized sheet for plein-air. Yum.
I will gift them a small painting to stay in their good books.

Murray, I have made a few pochades from cigar boxes. They provide interesting materials for your other creative outlet - making your own tools work the way you want. At the same time they have a variety of esthetics to play with. Not to mention being light but reasonably strong too. Here's one: My DIY Pochade

I was just given these two cigar boxes at Christmas because I mentioned to a friend that I always liked them. One has two sheets of thin wood veneer inside - maybe something to do with preserving the cigars or absorbing humidity? They might be good for storing tubes of paint but for now I'm just admiring how beautiful they are. You were lucky to have so many to choose from, Murray.

Cool idea! Makes me think of the old ammo crate my dad had. I wanted it for storing paints but he didn't want to give it up.
