Scavenger Hunt from Life #182: Feb 2 - Feb 14

Thanks Joan and Fletch and everyone 👋

I’ve been sketching with the paper in the book. But usually it’s flatter because I sketch with the front 2nd or 3rd sheet.

But with that direct pen tree sketch, I was in a hurry, and opened to the middle. It’s bound really tight, and having it open somewhere far inside, pulled on the entire group of pages below so they were rolled (in a sense). Hard to describe, but it was like drawing up a hill and then down the curve-drop to the binding at the back. Then when I tore the page out, it was still flat, because it had spent its life *flat* in the past, and the brief curvature didn’t become permanent.

Hope that makes sense.

I understand the consternation you must have felt on reading my words, and seeing a clearly flat page. I apologize for not explaining more clearly. If anyone would like me to leave the SH events, I will. I’ll miss you, but I don’t want to be the cause of controversy or doubt.

———————

Again, I apologize for the confusion.

PineCone: Lovely roof

Joan: What a beautiful combo of hand holding umbrella... so cool as it is in digi form too.

Robin: Thanks.

Ai - Page of heads made smile. Looks like you had fun.

Pine Cone - The precision of your line work and angles I assumed it was digital before I saw the sketchbook. 🙀 as you can tell I look before I read. And my consternation was with ripping the pages out! Raised that ripping pages from a book was like a sacrilege 😎

Joan - The subtle shading is great. Looks like you have mastered another art medium.

Jo, Ned, Robin. Jade and lurkers 👋🏽👋🏽 (apologies if I missed someone.)

Keep sketching and learning
Fletch

Ai, awww, love the people. Great catches for the Hunt.

Pine Cone, such beautiful lines on your roof line. Excellent. Love your comments and descriptions of equipment, etc.

Joan, thanks so much. Have a fun Super Bowl! Only our daughter, Jennie, is into that. They have folks over. I'm not even into the ads this year. Your umbrella and hand are lovely in the digi. Great colors on your hand. Hard for me to get that.

Hi Fletch, hope you are having fun today.

I sketched at my footstool with watercolors, graphite and a bit of Micron 03 at the end. Small top of page about 5 x 7 in. in the large Canson Mixed Media sketchbook.
Number 5, houseplant - The Christmas cactus has one last bloom not quite open

Editing this I forgot about the earlier sketch of my hand and elephant. Same sketchbook with a Micron 02. My thumb is not bruised or busted. Ha.
Number 3 and 4 - elephant and hand

Pine Cone, I was just curious if you sketched with that paper in or out of the sketchbook because I know sometimes it is impossible to get the paper to lay flat towards the middle. That doesn't in any way detract from the quality of your beautiful work. I know a lot of us keep our sketches in the sketchbooks. I have taken them out a few times when I've matted pieces or have given them to someone.

Ai, thank you. I've stayed in all day so I had the opportunity to do a Procreate sketch too since I have my iPad handy.

Fletch, thanks for the kind words. I still have trouble with merging the layers...maybe it is my fingers. lol I also couldn't get the darn eraser to work where I was outside of the lines in a few small spots. And of course I don't play around and teach myself what I need to know and when I'm in the middle of a sketch it is too late.

Jo, thanks. I love your Christmas cactus bloom. It looks so delicate. Mine is a new small plant from this year and it doesn't seem to be doing too well lately. It bloomed once and now it is droopy. Maybe it is too cold in here for it with this crazy weather. We don't really do anything for Super Bowl. Jerry watches the game, but I don't have any interest in it. He just wants something "special" to eat. I made pulled pork a few weeks ago and froze the leftovers, so pulled pork sandwiches and fries are on the menu...and maybe a beer. And somewhere during the evening there is an obligatory bag of Cheese Doodles. We're not much into partying.
