Scavenger Hunt from Life- #180 - Jan 9 - 21

Robin, you sketch so quickly and well. I like your underneath lines and hatching. Fun to have the glider under the trees. The mother doll (I can't remember the name) is so cute. I'm definitely smiling tonight.

I sketched yesterday at PT. I left my pens in the car so sketched with a Pilot G-2 pencil. I had pencil all over me and the sketch. I know I should start upper left and go down to keep my hand out of it, but I just move around like it is not going to smear. Anyway, Number 3 - underneath The receptionists feet and the trash can. The one on the left had her foot up on her knee so only could see one foot. Ha. In the small Canson travel sketchbook.

Ai, I like your colorful building along the canal. Thanks for always sharing your culture with us.

Robin, you've got a lot of "underneaths and overlappings" there. The figurine is great with all the children clustered around.:) Nice looseness to the sketch of the two candles. The animal squishy is fun!

Jo, fun underneath sketch of the staff sitting at the reception desk. Good thinking!

I've sketched this mobile home park a few times that is located across the canal in Islip. I wish there were more homes that could be seen from that spot, but these are the only ones that can be seen easily.

My NYC Urban Sketching group went to the Museum of Natural History yesterday. It was a snowy, cold day so I think everyone with kids in Manhattan was in there. A friend asked me to text her where I was sketching and this is what I texted her: 2nd floor. Gorilla diorama in the elephant room. I need earplugs!
13 - free space - watercolors and ink

A friend asked me to text her where I was sketching and this is what I told her: 2nd floor. Gorilla diorama in the elephant room. I need earplugs!

Joan, wow! The dinosaur is amazing as is the gorilla. Clever for fluffy - hair. You did really interesting "stuff" in the mobile homes. I love the shadows, greenery lines, etc.... all of it. What a happy looking group. Fun to see you there!

Again no sketching. Not sure why.

Thanks for your comments, Jo & Jade. The Museum of Natural History was fun, despite the crowds.

Ai, the house is great! You captured the architecture well. Awww, cute cats. They must love all the attention when people come to the cafe...or do they just ignore everyone? lol Curious to know...did you do the watercolor first or the lines? Looking at it I'm not sure.

Hi all. PT tomorrow and hoping to comment on all the great work I been lurking at. The little time left for art has been on a cp drawing I am doing for a friend. Not from life obviously. Hard to do anything in cp from life unless it’s a quick still life.
Fletch

Ai, that house is so interesting. I like your technique on the tree and shadows. The cats are fun and well done. Lovely gestures. That would be the last place I would go ... allergic to cats. Ha.

Joan, great finds for the Hunt. Clever for large and small machine. The Santa figurine is interesting and your hand .... well, it looks like your hand! Good idea to put the snow on the colored paper. Beautiful.

Fletch, we are ready for sketches any time. A friend that did colored pencil all the time drew on matt board like they use for framing. It seemed to be a lot faster with less coloring. They would give her the pieces they cut out of the mats free. They are the wrong size for framing without another matt or trim, but good for practicing. And lots of colors.

I sketched at Gene's PT today. It was in the low 30s this morning but was up to 55 or so by 1130 when I was out. I did stay in the car for comfort. I sketched in the Ohuhu Mix media sketchbook with an Ohuhu #3 pen and watercolors. The cacti was at the entrance of the shopping area. I hadn't even noticed them until today. Sigh.... guess I was driving past and watching traffic. No traffic today.

Joan: Thank you... Love all wonderful work, esp. the gorilla, and dino. The beneath structure is awesome as well. For my cat sketches, I did line first, for the vintage house I did pencil first.

#12 fluffy...Chinese colorful paper lantern type lamps at the mall food court ...a quick one, jabbed at a funky Mall's food court...

Fletch, good to see you. Let us see the cp you've been working on when it is finished. Wanna see...

Jo, I like the cactus sketch. I would notice them in a minute since we so rarely see them up here. Nice that you were able to find something different to sketch.

Ai, thanks for letting me know how you did the cats. I can easily imagine just the paint on the paper showing their shape, so I was wondering. I love the colorful sketch of the food court at the mall.

WOW! Lots of great sketches….just one more day of hunt….Man the time flys

9 & 10 - two things that rhyme.....gifts & lifts......gifts ( looks like plants but are valentine gift packages in some kind of vessels with ribbons and feathers coming out of top. AND. rhymes with lifts …two high chairs…i didn’t get the length/higeith proportion correct but they are like for sitting at a bar

11- fluffy garland for valentines is red but this yellowish paper makes the pencil look orange

Ai - your sketch of two boats and two homes looks like a fairy tale setting....love all the colors and open and closed windows...lots of fun, detail too. A CAT CAFE??!!! marvelous!!!! you made good use of an enviable scene........The tables along the slinky breeze way looks so inviting and lively!! nice catch!

Jennie- woww-I personally would love to see those "timed by seconds" sketches.....yeah, and from tv is fun too especially when you pause the frame...FUN stuff!!

Joan....love the branch covered sky background of Holbrook place...."very cold hard" sketch- your perspective is great...it initially could seem "in you face" presentation but the recession of building and the brick skirt make it liveable. good skills-gurl water side deck looks like it is waiting to burst with spring.
OOOHMI - wonderful collection of bones- amazing work!!! Love the gorilla...just had to drag it off for a desktop consultation. OH you are SO LUCKY for an artistic environment with all those art buddies!!!! Thanks for the photo....

JoC - really like the undertable foot portrait....things we rarely pay attention to tell fun, and bring tender little connection with what is happening. YAY for seeing something you missed !!!That's a great feeling of expansion....lovely sketch, they look happy. I like the way they clumps get little bigger and tighter in the middle.....The detail provided across the street really gives the sketch a nice presence even if it is just a thruway.

Fletch - good to hear you are getting some art down...and for a friend..super sweet....I think you could post it here for uplifting the general environment and encouragement-for sure....please?

Robin: Thank you. Nice scene with the V-day garland. Cute plants and all nice work on chairs.

Joan: Thanks again, I took a closer look again. I think your dino. is top- notch. Love how you shaded in inside bones of the dino. The end of the drive way was amazing. I can feel the warm light. Great lines in both big and small machines.

Jo: Thank you. Glad you get to sketch and look at the cacti up close. Great job.

Fletch: Hello,

Robin, I like your rhyming words. The chairs that life and the gifts work perfectly. I smiled at the name of the lounge.:D Thanks for all the comments on my sketches.

Ai, first of all....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I know it is over by now, but I hope you had a great day. Also, thanks so much for taking the time to comment on my posts.

Happy Birthday Ai! A day late but wishes still there.

Joan - love the background tree effect on Holbrook Diner. Keep looking at your mobile home sketch and thinking substitute palm trees for evergreens and it could be SWFL. On the dinosaur the only word that keeps coming to mind is WOW. The gorilla ain’t bad either. 😎 That is a big group. How did you all find room to paint? Clever picks for big and small machines. Great proportions on the hand. Love the driveway shadows.

Ai - Nice job capturing the long boats and the unusual architecture of the house. Curious hie the cat café keeps the cats off the tables? Besides the cute little cat houses. Love the colors on the lanterns.

JennieJo - if you cannot associate you can substitute.

Robin - Great hatching as usual, especially the tree bark. Cool pairing with candles. The squishy is adorable. Clever rhyme!

Jo - Fun ‘under’ sketch in graphite.

Keep sketching and learning
Fletch
