Scavenger Hunt from Life- #180 - Jan 9 - 21

Jo: I wish I could shop Texas brisket with you....... Yummy. A few fancy restaurants in downtown Bangkok started to serve them here too. Have not tried it... but I would rather taste it direct in TX. Some day.

Jo, thanks. I'm not sure why there was a no parking sign there since the entrance for the entire parking lot had a chain across it...better safe than sorry? lol Sounds like you had a busy day.

Joan: Wonderful waterscape with two cute gulls... Well done... love the depth you have create. The light and shadow around the floating device is very nice too.

Ai, the brisket is good but what Gene makes is much better, so we were spoiled.

Joan, when I see your gulls I remember the stray pelicans that stopped by here a few years ago. No lake now for them. I love your sketch.

Joan - concur with the others the shadows in the beach fence sketch are beautifully done. Urban Sketchers colors are terrific especially for chel 'eap set you never used! Would never have guessed those two paintings were not with your regular palette. The grasses in the no parking painting are stunning. Not sure why but the gull painting brought back memories boating on Great South Bay. Thanks.

Ai - your Snoopy sketches brought a smile. Thanks. Plane sketch in 10 min is super. Takes me longer that just guesstimating the proportions😂. Yummy job on the bananas and fruit. The ink and wash figurine and Copy Cat seem a change from your normal style. Both very well done.

Robin - can be fun to go backwards and sketch what you see than fit it into the Hunt.

Jo, Jade, Ned, Pine Cone, and other lurking artists 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

At PT now but still hope to sketch today. Miss sketching even though working on a cp winterscape. Go figure.

Keep sketching and learning
Fletch

Ai, thanks for your comment. I'm ready for Texas brisket too!

Jo, I wonder how far the pelicans strayed...

Fletch, thanks. The small, cheap set of paints were Yarka paints. One of the first watercolor sets I had were Yarka paints. They don't have a lot of pigment in them and are wimpy when you use them. Nearly full strength was needed. The Great South Bay has so many boardwalk areas that look so similar, although many of them have been updated over the years. Hope you get to sketch when you are back home.

Fletch, we were at PT today, too. Missed Monday for doc checkup so went today. Well Gene did. I didn't feel like sketching there.
Joan, it is about 160 miles to the Gulf and 3 miles to the big Bastrop Lake. That may have been a regular stop on a migration from ??? to the Gulf. It was amazing to see hundreds of them.

I was going to sketch in a sketchbook but the iPad was right there on my stool so in the App, Brushes, with my finger at the start, then remembered the pencil. Sigh...
Number 1 small machine - a manual machine, a new pencil sharpener from Joanna at Christmas. It is an ooly Mighty Sharpener.
Number 2 hand - holding the sharpener

Jo, I've never seen that many pelicans together. I've only seen a few at a time when I've been to FL. Nice combination of your hand with the small machine.

11 - view thru a window of a local pizza place - watercolors and ink

Joan, thanks, guess they got waylaid on their migration. Covered our ponds/lakes. They left in a big swoosh...... Have only seen a handful one other time. Not nearly enough water now. Just a puddle in each lake.
I love, love your pizza sketch. Such a neat story .. I just had a chocolate from Peru and a half glass of wine and now want pizza!!

Jo - Love the dgi. It has an illustration quality to it. Tuesday and Thursday are Sharon’s standing appointments. This week is a full docket with MD appointments on Monday and Friday as well.

Joan - Great detail in the pizza sketch and of course beautifully proportioned people.

#1 underneath - net net this is a cheat. I had a small pocket sketchbook and sketched the shapes of the balls and pipe racks underneath. When I got home i cleaned up the sketch and today added shading using the photo as reference. Nothing is really left of the actual sketch from life.

Super sketches you all, Jo, Joan, and Fletch. .... Uhm... my semester is getting busy again... hope to do a few more done the best I can.

Fletch the exercise balls are so well done. Wow. Photo or not, well done. We do what we can! It takes us 20 minutes to get to PT so each session takes 2 hours with travel. Not great but it keeps Gene mobile ... probably me, too. Just to walk and move things around. Ha.. And thanks. I definitely wasn't too worried about the color of my hands. I liked the blue sharpener.

Hi Ai, know you are busy, see you when we can. Hi to Joan, Robin and the rest.

Jo, chocolate, wine, and pizza sound good to me.:) Getting out for the PT sessions or anything are good for the spirit as well as the body. My friend's hubby also has Parkinsons. She meets a few of us at the bagel shop every Wed after we all weigh in at Weight Watchers. She can't leave Sam home alone, so she brings him along and we all have breakfast together. Another couple that they are friends with join us too. It gives both her and him some time out and some socializing time. Then they usually head off to PT for him.

Fletch, nice sketch of the exercise balls. I don't mind a little neating up when you get home...even with a little help from a photo.

Ai, thanks. Hope you find a little time to squeeze in a sketch.

Hi Art Buddies -
Joan - great takes on eating out in the cold! It is amazing how much you pack into each picture!! Can almost smell the delicious dish in the foreground. Love the lamps at different levels interacting with the chefs and dishes. /the other sketch reminds me of a sign I saw at work the other day....
EXERCISE?
I thought you said
EXTRA FRIES
Nice job with the boat " parking" the horizontals give a balance feel to the whole scene....just the occasional lapping water and moving clouds moving along. The seagull is so friendly.

Ai - Wonderful fruits. /wow-you have bananas on the stalk....nicely done! Sweet figurine and lounging cat.

JoC - supreme digi!!! wow! Looks just like an advert...nice to look at!!!

Fletch - sweet find for underneath..thanks for the photo too. I am glad you got to messaround with your sketch. Nice result plus the additional satisfaction treat!

Good to hear the news from everyone. We finally finished up inventory. My dwelling is lacking the usual attention. Hope to squeeze in a few quick sketches nevertheless. Hoping the same for ya'll.

Peace out.

Robin, thanks so much. I'll take the "extra fries" over the exercise any day. Hope you get to do a few sketches for the hunt.

Joan, yes we get out to lunch when we can. Good for Gene .... and me. Ha. The diner sketch is really good. You can tell the season and lights on. Excellent.

Robin, love the exercise, extra fries. Perfect for me. Thanks for your comments. Hope you find time to sketch. I had a little time today but procrastinated it away.....

I have been doing a bit of liveish 10-20 second sketching. As I'm not too mobile just now, I do quick sketches of people, at the moment. Even with my very lateral mind I couldn't get any to fit. Was going to try ... loose coat hanging over shoulder, or clothes touching body. But thought "a bit too far". But I do have a question. Is TV sketching acceptable? Really enjoying this set of sketches

Ai, your pair of boats and homes is great in direct watercolor. Wow. Love seeing the photos as well. I feel almost like I've been to Thailand after all these years.

JennieJo, I think we all feel that sketching moving people even on TV is good practice. We would like you to join us as much as you can. You may get ideas for things that fit, the longer you are here. You can call them free spaces. Sometimes we sketch the same thing in different ways or a different medium. I sketch my hands a lot, maybe holding one of the items. The main idea is to draw from life. I think you learn more or get more out of it than from a photo. Shadows in photos are so dark and sometimes you lose perspective and distance. Anyway we welcome your new and current sketches done during the Hunt.
