Scavenger Hunt from Life #173: Oct 17 - Oct 29

Jade -- those bats are cute! In Idaho about ten years ago a bat smashed into the side of my head while I was in my boat fishing ( it hurt my ear! ) and last year one landed on the back of my shirt while I was standing on the shore fishing. Those weren't so cute!

Ai -- I like the colorful river hut!

Pen ran out of ink while making this and then I'm afraid I hurried too much... caught a couple fish on the way back from this place today. At Point Reyes National Seashore, a favorite place to walk and fish.

Edit: it's hard to see the scale in these. The cliffs here are high, maybe 300 or 400 feet.

Thanks, Jade!

Ned, you captured the texture and size of those cliffs so well. My nephews surfed near San Diego at a beach that had cliffs similar to that. Sometimes people would go paragliding off them. I remember zigzagging to get down to the beach at the bottom.

Robin, thanks. You’re ready with a hat and shoe and a bottle of coconut something. I like the ink color on the bottle. I bought some Italian sepia ink to bring home. It’s well sealed so I’m not opening it until I’m home.

Rainy day here. Went out to sketch when there was a lull and sat under an overhang. That worked until the rain got heavier. Now I have stuff from my backpack spread out all over so it can dry. Glad I keep my sketchbook and papers in plastic envelopes.

Love your watercolour Ned. The beach looks very like a UK beach. ⛱️ Sorry to hear about the bats, batting you around the head! I had a similar situation with a dive-bombing seagull! 😅

Joan - lovely happy flowers! 🌼

Robin - I do enjoy your paintings and stories.. I like the trainer particularly. 👟

Ai - you did that sketch really well. It reminds me of a Matisse. 👌

Ned - I am with Jo, the crab is creepy looking. Beautiful location. Be a great watercolor. Florida is really a giant sandbar so our beaches are all flat. Our house is about 15 mile or so mile# from the Gulf of America but only 10 feet over sea-level.

Jade - Bats see also creepy and also well done.

Ai - Love the teddy bears and the creep6 blob. 😁 Funny even your boats are more interesting. Buildings. Boats and cars here all look like cookie cutter cutouts. Love the line drawing of that unique sculpture.

Joan - a still life! Nicely done. Great shadows.

Robin - Love the shading on the hat. Cool looking shoe. Did not know there are special shoes for yoga.

#4 bottle drawn with graphite 9B in same watercolor sketchbook. The dark spot to the left I’d bottle neck did not show up right away way. Something was spilt or splashed on the paper.

Keep sketching and learning

Ai, it would be fun to sketch together again. What an unusual sculpture! Your line drawing of it looks great.

Jade, grazie!

Fletch, I love seeing your shading on these graphiite pieces.

Went to Burano, a small island in the Venetian lagoon. The houses are bright colors and they are known for their lace making.

Ned, I think your sketch of the bluffs at the National Seashore does show size. You did a perfect sketch. Beautiful as is the photo.

Hi Ai.Oops, the sculpture is odd with no torso. You did it well and quickly.

Joan, the flowers and leaves are so nice. You do great work in Procreate and it still looks like your work. Nice. Your adventure in the rain sounds like "real plein air". Good you made it back to dry out. The sketch in Burano, vehicle, has all the things I like, eh?Both in color and items. I'm hungry looking at it so am having milk and graham crackers.

Hi Robin, oh, love your sketches. Nifty hat and the bottle has character. Fun shoe and great colors!!

Hi Jade.

Fletch, your bottle is excellent. You really handle graphite well.

Two days without sketching again. Sigh.....

I’m beginning a new re-learning phase 😅

Also, Fletch’s cool tone experiments inspired me to decide to try shading with tone rather than cross-hatching this time 😳🤒🤕

I felt overwhelmed, and failed to even try to portray the textures of the different stones….. I was too busy trying not to cross hatch 😂😇😅

It was fun to be out sketching in my mobile studio 😄 Baby steps 👣

Fletch - there's a lovely soft light to the bottle. 👏
Beautiful Joan - I love the colours you've used 😊

Ai, you've captured that water park well 🌊

PineCone I do like the way you draw. You bring a crisp, beauty to the things you capture. ❤️
