Scavenger Hunt from Life #172: Oct 05 - Oct 17

Joan - Pigeon is a good sub. Pretty sure they are same family. Nicely done.

Jo - Hope Gene’s checkup went well.

Pine Cone - You are great for my art ego. 😎

Ai - Love the beads and statue which is in silhouette. The pictures and painting are great.

#4 fan - ceiling fan This is my first attempt to draw with tone and no lines. Not what I envisioned but will keep trying. Strange side effect is minimal erasing which I often do as much as drawing.

Joan - Love how well you handle people and proportion in you scenarios. Same goes for textures in the doorway. Excellent digital of the coffee station.

#5 grocery bag - Experiment #2 trying to draw with tone. Used 9B woodless pencil and blender. Image is a little over 1/2 page in. 9x12 in sketch pad

Fletch: Thanks. I ditto with Joan about your shading fan. Interesting experiment. Shading in grocery bag is super. Thanks for hosting this fun Hunt.

Joan: Thanks. I love your bird, the colors are just beautifully sing !!! I agree with Fletch about your piazza with many people doing many things in different location, and you make them fit the space well. Love the door way with all Italian elements. I can envision the pattern of the irons, and plasters... Perfectto !!! The digi moka-pots are top notch.

Fletch, your ceiling fan is quite good. The blades look so different from different angles, right? Excellent form and shading. Wow on the grocery bag. Fun technique to not use lines. Hmmm. And Gene's checkup good for six months.

Joan, mmm I like the grocery bag scene. The leaves through the doorway are so lovely with light and shadows. You are really giving us a tour! You did well with the continuous line on the iPad, love the coffee makers.

Hi to Ai and all.... thanks.

Gene lost a filling so we were at the dentists today. They put in a crown in about 2 hours so I sketched and watched. Wish we had always had these dentists, I would have better teeth! Sigh... Anyway, out the window in the Ohuhu sketchbook with Ohuhu pens and watercolors, page size 10 x 7.6 inches.
Number 3 conglomeration of substitutions - ha (at least I sketched)

Number 4 sub hair for vine tendrills, small about 2 x 2 inches - Gene's Dental Assistant

Jo: Love your congromeration of substitutions... I shall follow your path... Nice record of so many things outdoor from dentist's office. Good quick tendrill substitution.

Joan -- I'm with Fletch.. the people fit so naturally and make it feel real. Love the doorway. I always like to see "before and after" with your continuous line sketches, and it's amazing what the color can do.

Ai -- I like the beads too!

Fletch -- wow I like your drawings without lines. Something I need to try more too.... the few times have not gone well for me!

Jo -- oooh nice colors! Dental assistant is a great ink sketch.

The new hunt is posted, there is still time left for this one too.

There's something very satisfying about this picture, Fletch! Good job.

5 - “quaking aspen leaf”

— virtual sketch
— freehand

— iPad Pro and Apple pencil
— Procreate app

NOTE 1: My personal choice is to sketch, draw, and paint in ProCreate with brushes and erasers. I do NOT paint into “selections” or “masks”. If I stray outside of where I want to be, I erase 😅

Fletch, thanks. Wonderful job on the paper bag! Now I’m wondering what’s inside. Nice shading.

Ai, many thanks. The architecture here is great and the weathered areas of the buildings add so much charm.

Jo, thanks. It is fun being in a different location with new things to sketch. I like the scene with the barn…so country. Nice capture of the dental assistant.

Ned, adding color to the continuous line sketches really makes them pop. Doing some digis of things with Procreate. I don’t have to carry another sketchbook.😃

Pine Cone, that leaf is so realistic!👏

Jo - Problem I have with dentist nowadays is the pain when they give you the bill. The root canal and cap I had done a couple of weeks ago almost gave me a heart attack. The barn sketch is cool especially the cars! You always complain how hard they are to draw but you nail the SUV and the pickup. Great line work on the portrait for hair.

Pine Cone - WOW! Gorgeous.

Thanks to all for the kind encouraging words. Much appreciated.

Thanks so much !!! It was a lot of fun to draw 💛

More comments in a bit, but for now, here is a pic of the actual leaf, and the tree it came from 💛

Sorry for the bad leaf pic. I didn’t realize that it had so much shadow on the right side (from the leaf curling in the heat) until just now 🙃 And that sidewalk in real life is nearly white, sigh, Apple, lol 🤐

Thanks so much for your kind words, and inspiration Joan, Fletch, Jade, Joan, and JoC.

Ai
— Your ethereal sketch of the lovely statue with its beads is wonderful 😍

Fletch — Your experiments with tone are fun, and expressive !!! The ceiling fan was a complex choice for your first experiment, but you did well. And the bag shows that you’ve got the feel of this idea. It’s really working for you 😂 You’ve made me want to try it too. Thank you for hosting this inspiring event, and for getting me started with iPad and Procreate art 😂😄😌😂

Joan — Fantastic contrast between your sketch of the open space area with its scope, and the open door in the lovely wall, so close to us. Love seeing the people going about their lives, belonging as they do in that beautiful town. Thank you for taking the time to share all these wonderful moments from Venice ❤️☀️🎨
Very cool still life, and as always, can’t believe what you can do with a single line 😃😂

JoC — I’m so glad Gene is okay ❤️‍🩹 Wonderful scene of the building and area, great sketch.
The dental assistant sketch seems quite poignant to me. You caught a real moment, and the story could be anything. Superb sketch 👏

Fletch, thanks so much. Cars are still hard for me. I'm doing somewhat better since we've been doing them a few years. Ha. But, have to complain about something. Gene did so well at the dentists. They are such a competent and friendly bunch. It is where I sketched the stained glass windows. They finally got them in all around the building. Beautiful. It is the old train station. Thanks, Fletch for the Hunt. Wish I had done more. See all you all on the next Hunt.

Pine Cone, thanks. I had plenty of time to work on the sketch, even the watercolor. Gene is doing fine, just can't stay alone anymore.

We went to PT today so picked up a leaf on the way in and sketched in the small Canson travel sketchbook with a Micron 02. About 30 minutes.
Number 5 underside of leaf and Number 6 oak leaf Same leaf turned over. Interesting the top side was darker than the underside. Pretty brown.
