Scavenger Hunt from Life #170: Sep 11 - Sep 23

Joan: Please tell all your art friends that all those bigger than life-size art packages are super. Love them all and your art group are so awesome. I hope your back feels better.

Joan - amazing group project.. 👏 👏 👏 well done you all. So creative. I also loved your paintings, great ship and that bridge too!
Fletch - I really like the deep red of the candle. I'm guessing it can take a while to get back into painting but I think you did a great job 👍
Ned - I love the buttery colour you got on this picture.. beautiful. 💛
Ai - those Walkie talkies are so cute! 🥰 Very nice job on the bottles / vases too.

Everyone else 👋❤️

Here's what I made yesterday (thank you gift and card) for #2 red 🍓

Ai, thanks. Now the group can get back to regular sketching. We will have a model this week.

Jade, thanks so much. Your sketch of the crochet berry is so cute! Great idea to make it into a gift card.

2 - “white” - tree trunk with [mostly] white bark

tl;dr (too long, don’t read)

— non-virtual sketch
— sketched from inside my mobile studio

— Pentel mechanical pencil (0.5)
— medium sketchbook by PenGear (from WalMart)
— (6” x 9”) (15.2cm x 22.8cm)

— freehand

NOTE: For some reason, this tree had “regular” darker bark near the base, going up a couple of feet — unlike the same kind of tree right next to it 🤔

I began sketching this from my mobile studio while it was raining. I wanted to try, thinking of all the things Joan goes through when she sketches from her mobile studio.

I was proud of myself for trying 😅 But about 30 seconds after I began to sketch, the rain turned into a torrential downpour. I was maybe about 40 feet or more away from this tree. I couldn’t really see much in the downpour, but I continued trying for awhile.

But eventually I gave up because part of my car was badly soaked when I had to open a back window to defog the other windows (since I have no working air conditioning or heat anymore) (my car is over a quarter of a century old). I was trying to sketch from the far side window and it was impossible 🌧️

So I had to leave this unfinished (like the previous sketch I posted, only worse lol).

I didn’t even get to define or sketch the extensive and lovely area around the base of the tree, but perhaps another day.

3 - “nozzle” - 😆 some of the clouds that were part of the torrential downpour system that ended my effort to sketch the tree in my previous sketch. These particular clouds though were further away and more differentiated than the ones directly over my car, pelting me like crazy lol 😜

After giving up on the previous sketch, I tried driving for awhile, but the fogging inside my car was making that impossible too, so I pulled over, used a towel to dab at the windshield inside, and tried to sketch at least a sense of the clouds directly in front of me. I didn’t have a clue how to go about it, but I tried 🌧️

Sorry about the bad image. That is NOT pencil smeared in various areas. Either the paper is bad, or maybe I need to clean my iPhone lenses. I don’t know.
