Scavenger Hunt from Life #106: Mar 8 - Mar 16

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.
The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:
https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
*All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the listless, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
*Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
*Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
*Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required!

Still fighting this bug. Sharon thinks it is chest cold. Only know I feel like hell. Hope to feel a bit better today and draw something.

Keep sketching

Fletch, I kept thinking I had just a chest cold and it turned out to be bronchitis. Didn't get better until I started taking antibiotics and something for the cough.

We had a cold, damp day here and are waiting on the rain (again). I decided to go out early so I could do something before it rained. I checked and saw that Westhampton was having their St Patrick's Day Parade at 1:00. I dressed warmly...like I was going to the Arctic. When you stand around or sit still outside you get colder because you aren't moving and keeping your body warm. I was there for about an hour and a half and decided they couldn't have much more to the parade since EVERY local fire department had passed by. lol

For most of the I sketched in ink and added the color at home...except for anything that was green.

1 - colorful (Love the shamrock suit he was wearing.) - watercolors and ink

2 - drab (the man in the middle) - watercolors and ink
3 - musical (bagpipes)

4 - soft (puffy jackets) - watercolors and ink

5 - cold outdoor scene - watercolors and ink

Thanks for the list, Joe. Your comment on the kilts made me laugh. Take care, our granddaughter thought she had pneumonia and the hospital said no, next day she couldn't breathe.. She had double pneumonia and it turned sepsis, she almost died ... and she is young. Get checked out!!

Joan, I love your images. You are brave to be out in the cold. The shamrock suit is cool as are all the puffy coats. You got a lot of different people including the kilt!! Fun and thanks for going out for us!!

Thanks, Fletch, Ned, and Jo. It seems that every time I decide to go out and sketch the St Patty's Parade it is freezing cold. Maybe I should have had a flask of Irish whiskey with me.

I sketched outside the local hardware store today.
6 - something you can sit on - watercolors and ink
7 - something new (bbqs)
8 - something glass (glass in doors)

I'm participating in the "1 Week 100 People Challenge" so I sketched in Panera today.

9 - warm coat - ink

10 - something with 4 sides (table) - ink

Joan: Such a fun and amazing St.Patrick's people sketches....love them all... the soft thinck coats and knit hats were really well done. Bravo to a big group items at the H/W store too... Great start of this Hunt. Great people sketches for your new art challenge...!!!

Joe: Thanks for the list. Get well soon.

Joan, fantabulous sketches. The hardware store has so much detail and your people are great. Good luck with your people sketches. Fun they fit in here, too!

A touch of Jameson will warm the soul I am told by my wife's Family (both sides Irish).
Great job on the Hardware Store sketch. Like how you included their logo. Oh Good luck with your people sketches! Looks like you have a big start going in.

Ned, Ai, Jo *waves

Feeling a bit better.
Keep sketching
Fletch

Fletch, happy you are feeling better, maybe a hot toddy with the Jameson. Evil grin.

I went to help Gene with his headset while he was on his trike ride. He listens to podcasts while riding. I decided to use some of the time to sketch something different. In the Canson travel book 5.5 x 8.5 inches regular paper. Acurite 03
Number 1 yard - in a neighbor's the two stone or cement dogs. Every time I go by I think they are real, a gray color.
Number 2, metal - the road sign and post it is on
Number 3, wooden - the fence posts, trees and woodpile

Hi ya’ll ! Fletch - Thanks for a super flexible list. Hope you get back up to snuff :giggle:

Joan - wonderful and delightful sketches. Man, you got it going on! Love the people sketches. We’re you standing sketching?

Jo C - oh, you made the dogs LOOK real too. Nice energy in those sketches.

I am almost moved back into my trailer in the woods. Hope to get back to sketching.

Jo - excellent pen work. Keep looking back at all the different textures you capture as well as the light. I am with Robin! You made the dogs look real.

Bongo, Robin et alia *waves

Keep Sketching
Fletch

Well, look who's here!
Bongo, thanks.
Robin, hope the move is going smoothly. So difficult to remember everything. Thank you. Warm hugs....
Fletch, happy to see you, thanks.

Hi to all :)
Joan -- love the people sketches ( I'm pretty much too afraid to try that! But I will sometime... )
Jo -- I like the open airy feel to the trees and shrubs, and the dogs are great :)

Let's see... #1 something cold, the stream and ocean.

This place is called Russian Gulch beach, and the creek is called Russian Gulch Creek. In the summer and fall it is completely dry, but most of the rest of the year you can wade across to the beach ankle or knee deep. I brought my swim shoes thinking I would wade across but with all of our recent rain it was too fast and deep. Still a great place to eat my lunch! Sun came out and it was a nice place to sit for a while.

and a photo:

I had to squish the rocks to include the mouth of the creek... a disadvantage to just diving right in with a pen. That probably wouldn't happen with a quick pencil sketch first, but I don't even carry a pencil anymore!

A4ish sketchbook, 2B pencil. I have been using a standard lamp as a drying rack for my latest experiment. The lamp sits on a few books with a small acrylic work on canvas standing up.

Something warm and hot - standard lamp;
Something soft, new and old (recycled bits) - new experiments with serviettes
1000004026-01.jpeg

Something colorful - red, yellow, blue on golden dotted serviettes. Odd bits of colours were eraser smudges!
