Scavenger Hunt #177: 04 - 16 December 2025

Mug with dramatic lighting.
I think I'm more of a concept sketcher from life rather that a replicator of what I see. Anyway ...
Striking while the iron was hot at my morning coffee. Grabbed my portable solar light, no good-didnt want to play, added a magnifying sheet. Not perfect, but it created some interesting effects. And, I had 5 minutes. View attachment 52494
One of the pleasures of living in Aussie outback..ish area is slow and no internet. I can't upload my coffee cups. Will do the latest sometime today hopefully.

Cup 3, soldiering on. Same cup, with some pattern lines included-diagonals on the face ♡ set the cup into some plants, created shadows and light. Swirled the coffee to get the movement in the cup. Otherwise, I'm doing zentangle cards for Xmas. The ideas seemed to seep onto this page,

Cup 4 ... looking to get some real light, remembered a gift from a Grand girl. Absolutely now idea how they gathered and then attached it. It's not very pretty, I hid the worst of it. But I do love it. 1000019438.jpg

Today was a Thai national holiday. So Tone and I ventured into the city to have a nice American breakfast at Gaysorn- Amarin Mall. I got to sketch this middle area of this mall afterward.

#6 bench ...guess who was my lovely model...wc+pencil...took me about 1 hour.

JennieJo - What can be more beautiful than something created with love by a child. Would love to see the original.

Joan - Great holiday image seemingly perfect for watercolor and ink,

Ai - Wowza! Another great Holiday image. We do not go to malls anymore so is an extra treat to see one so beautifully decorated. Model looks patient.

Robin - Obviously the muses guided you. You do contour hatching so well.

Jo, Ned, Pine Cone, Jade, and ??? -👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

Keep sketching and learning

Ai, nice that you had a willing model model for your sketch. The mall looks very festive.

Robin, glad you found items to combine on the page. Nice!

Fletch, thanks. I'm glad they decorate most of the lampposts, otherwise they're not too exciting.

It has been cold and windy here. Today I sat in my mobile studio to sketch the bark of this tree at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum...no way was I getting out of the car. lol

6 - tree bark - watercolor pencils and pans

Didn't even think of that Fletch. It's already been returned to the 'i can't throw this out' box in the shed. Will try to remember to take the camera down there.

Day 5, the day Christmas decorations go up. Should have gone with my instincts for watercolour. Used left over woodworking film over a tin to get some reflections. Those familiar with Australian wildflowers might just see the Sturt Desert Peas my brain wanted to turn the tinsel into.

Asking for a friend, what optimist said "I can do this!"
Today is my 53rd wedding anniversary. I might just look for some fairy lights that still work and see what I can do.

And following on from Fletch's prompt I've added 2 photos. 1 The Cup that started it all, not as sketched but close. 2 this cup, not the final setup and 1000019470.jpg1000019455.jpg1000019462.jpgwithout the candles, I ran out of time.

JennieJo, ahh, the old internet. We finally got good service about 1 1/2 years ago. We always had slow satellite, then got Starlink and it was fast and expensive. Finally they replaced the burned lines and we have really good service now. So I feel for you...... Your jar is super with the ellipses and color/shade/reflections. Good work. Added after I posted, we crossed. I love the Santa Cup. Happy Anniversary!!!

Joan, gorgeous lamppost. I see that they put up wreaths on the lampposts downtown this year. Maybe I will get to them. You did a great job on the tree. I like the background and all the negative shapes.

Ai, nice you got to the Mall. Huge tree. Great sketch. Lovely decorations and model. I'm smiling.

Robin, great cafe chair. Lucky you to have breakfast fit the Hunt.

I sketched at Gene's PT today in the small Strathmore visual sketchbook. Good for water. About 25 minutes, Uhuhu .2 pen and watercolors.
#1 palm frond - this looks a bit like a palm, plant in the corner about 6 ft tall. I didn't do the top half. Ha.

Robin: Thanks. We love your views too. Thinking of you, knowing that you are super busy.

Jo: Thanks. Bangkok is a mega of lux shopping mall. We live outskirt away from those glam though. I hope to sketch a few more of X'mas decorations from our Bangkok Mall's Xmas trees. Wonderful plant leaves.

Joan: Thanks. What a wonderful tree bark sketch. Thank you for working against the cold to sketch. You did such a wonderful job of wc pencils. I have a few sets of them plus Inktense pencils.... I still don't feel comfortable to work with them. Your marvelous sketches using these medium are really inspiring.

Fletch: Thanks for kind words and Hello.

Jennie Jo, Happy Anniversary! Thanks for sharing all the mugs with us.

Jo, super job on the potted plant at PT. Nice variety in your greens.

Robin, I really enjoy seeing all the creativity here and reading all the comments to everyone and from everyone.

Ai, thanks so much. I don't use the watercolor pencils too much. I find they are good when I want some texture, but otherwise I prefer the paints. All our malls here tend to look pretty much the same. You have some really nice decorations.

Zowie !!! Very cool and fun and colorful sketches since I last commented 😂

Everyone — Thanks for all the get well wishes, and my cold is almost gone ❤️‍🩹

👋 I’m working on a little sketch, but I’m still super tired, and so I haven’t finished yet. But it’s making me happy to work on it, and hopefully I can finish soon, and also catch up on comments 🙏
