This was my first attempt at water color pencils and was done with a cheap 36 color set on dollar store 9x12 water color paper.
Over all I'm not so happy with it but it came out better then I expected. And I liked them more then the normal colored pencils.

As always all opinions and criticism are welcome.

For your first time with an unfamiliar medium, you should be pretty happy with this one! Great job on the top strokes, giving texture and depth.

9x12 is a fair size, too, for covering with a new medium. It looks nicely blended in the background.

Now you never have to have a "first try" again, and can start building a process. :) Applause!

Very nice! It looks like your set can produce some good saturated colors. Keep going with them!

I agree with your replies. You also go a few nice blends in there, especially in the dark and light yellow in the bird. You should feel good about this. I also like watercolor pencils. You can use them with watercolors as well. :)

Good one, especially for a first try with a new medium. Now you can just have fun with it since you have a better idea of what to expect.

Impressive work, for a start!
You have got the outline and proportions well, but it would be good if you could also work on showing the form (roundness/3D). I also feel that a different background would have made your parrot stand out much better against it.
