Onions and Garlic Shadows

I like that Kay. Thanks to this painting, I see that an almost white or pale grey background looks good and doesn't compete with the vegetables. I've been struggling with that question in an oil still life painting of a pumpkin, bell pepper, and tomato. I think I know what to do now.
Well, I spoke to soon! I am battling my butt off, mainly with the pumpkin, but even with the green of the bell pepper. So far, the tomato is the least hideous in the group. I will not inflict a photo of the work in progress on everyone here, but I can say that I have a newfound respect for artists like you, Kay, who are so good at this kind of painting.
