Limes

When you buy a whole bag of limes and they call out to be models you have to listen to them. I posed them on a cardboard box and added the little green bottle to keep them company. I love painting from life and being able to study what the light is doing. 10x10 acrylic on watercolor paper

I'm glad you got the bag of limes and this painting is gorgeous 😍 I like a lot the colors. The dark parts of the cardboard box is very beautiful color. So are the limes. I like everything about this painting.

That’s an awesome painting Donna! Those limes look very touchable. I love your composition too. You have a bit of abstract in you! And I like that thinking combined with still life. Switching it up enough that it’s an extra added interest to the piece.🙂

Excellent! I wonder how many will see the subtlety in your foreground, table and background patterning. A bit of Rothko and Mondrian in tonal fashion. Love this.

I’m so glad you guys like this. Thanks so much for the feedback Grapes, Christine, Joy, Jo and Bart. I have been looking at a lot of contemporary still life work lately and trying to find a way to get some abstract interest going along with the “things” of a still life. There’s a failed attempt under this where I tried out outlines and flat shapes and it was just too much of a change for me. I’m a little proud of myself because I invented colors for the box, left pencil lines showing and even left the drips from where I sprayed a wet layer with water. What’s the world coming to? 😁

Kudos for your creative interpretation of the subject! My take on things is way too literal, and my imagination is non-existent.

Joy, you do such beautiful work with watercolors and I think you need to give yourself credit for every time you loosen up and deviate at all from a reference. In my first attempt at this one I painted the cardboard box a color which is probably known somewhere as cardboard box brown. It’s hard to step away from being literal!

Thanks Bongo. I hope you’re getting out to paint.
