Below is the last graphite drawing I'm gonna do for a while. Just finished it a few days ago. It's of a porcupine, which I named "Insula." The pose is referenced from a photograph I took of one of the porcupines at the Minnesota Zoo. I had a lot of fun working on this until the very end, when rendering all those quills just started to hurt in the emotional sense, lol.

Well Steph your last drawing is wonderful. Love your porcupine! Excellent rendering of the subject.
Is there another medium you want to try?
Here is Teddy the talking porcupine….🙂

Oh yes I know of Teddy! Haha, I've watched some of his other videos. He's too cute. The one where he is eating a pumpkin literally kills me. There's another porcupine video on Youtube called "Porcupine who thinks he is a puppy!" that has a porcupine playing that I've also watched several times... 😅 Porcupines are such lovable creatures.

Yeah, I'm thinking about working more with fabric and some type of color media, like pastels and/or colored pencil. :)

Well, that sounds cool. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Oh yeah, porcupines are really cute. There’s a porcupine on Facebook or Instagram that was rescued and he talks all the time and he’s a real character. He’s just a little guy and he’s so cute! Who knew?

Lol, yeah I had no idea how vocal porcupines were until I saw the videos of Teddy. I could hardly believe it when I first heard him, haha.

I missed this one! What a beautiful portrait. I can tell a lot of work went into those quills. 🙂
Thanks! Haha yes, they were a lot of work 😵‍💫 I'd say about 70 percent of my time spent working on this was on the quills. The rock and the sky did not take too much time

Fantastic work.I love charcoal.
Thanks so much! And oh yes to clarify I used graphite for this piece - particularly, a 2B mechanical pencil, a 2B pencil, a 2H pencil, and a H pencil. That said, I also love charcoal :) If charcoal were a little less messy to work with, and I didn't have carpeted floors haha, I'd work in it far more than I currently do. It's a beautiful medium!
