I did this one some years ago. I tried to search for what I've posted here and didn't see it yet. I've probably posted a lot of these on WC over the years. This one is called In Training, 24 x 24 inches, oil on birch panel.
It was shortly after I did this one when it hit me like a ton of pianos that Klee was a huge presence in my (art-making) life. I always knew it in the back of my head, but it wasn't in the forefront for over 30 years. Seriously. I had such a profound experience at sixteen at the Norton Simon Museum when I went to see his exhibit and he must have stuck with me ever since--giving me all kinds of permissions to do whatever I wanted and be as playful/expressive as I needed to be. He's obviously a strong influence, especially in this painting.
