Hello everyone, my name is Andy and I am a traditional artist from England. I am by no means a professional, and I do not intend on becoming one. I am here to have discussions with other artists, particularly other hobbyists.

I have been drawing for roughly fifteen years now, with a particular focus on character design. I have been active on multiple platforms but nothing has felt right, especially for discussions as opposed to just posting work.

It'll be a pleasure to get to know you all. :)

Welcome to the forum! Looking forward to fruitful discussions. Which kinds of topics are you most interested in?

Thank you. The topics that interest me most are ones about practising new techniques and experimenting with new materials. I only work in coloured pencil right now, but I'm looking to branch out to other dry mediums, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could try with charcoal, sanguine, chalks, pastes... there are so many.

Or you could try with watercolor pencils as a first step to experiment an altogether different dimension.

Hi Andy, welcome to Creative Spark. Please make yourself at home, join in the discussions, and feel free to share your work 🙂

Where abouts in England are you? I'm from the East Midlands, though I live north of the border now.

Welcome to the forums, Andy. Make yourself at home. There are a few threads here that have lots of discussion but you could begin a discussion in almost any forum.

Hi apodemouse. Welcome. I guess to have your discussions, some of your work may help, but hey, just ask away. A lifetime ago, I started with pen and ink, to watercolour, oilbars, some oils, now I'm stuck on pastels and gouache. I'm doing an exercise these days of a painting a day, small to keep it manageable. And one thing I've learnt is that if you are looking to expand and explore, you have to push. Dailys certainly do that as you run out of subjects, ideas, style and medium.
With pastels I started with a student set of 12 that in honesty, was the best fun I've had with pastels even though I have trays of them now!! Same with the most recent experiment in gouache. The only way to explore is explore. Really looking forward to some spitballing with you down the line.
