Try Vise-grips. You can get small ones at the hardware store. Long as you don't adjust them so tight they'll crack the plastic, way better than ordinary pliers. Just enough to get a firm grip. Vise-grips are one of the three tools for a "fix almost anything with next to nothing" tool kit. The others are duct tape and a screwdriver.
