I painted on Yupo for many years - - with a Geso coat it behaved just like painting on board or canvas. Since Nara is made of the same stuff as Yupo, thought I'd do the same - but I can't get a good bond with acrylic - you can easily scratch it off with a finger nail.
With oil, what seems to work best is first toning with paint thinned with Liquin (NOT mineral spirits). Once it's dry the bond is so tight you can't scrape it off. First layers are like finger painting because the paper is so smooth.
