December Challenge

Txomsy...I started at the bottom of the thread and worked my way up. As I a result I saw your paintings first and the reference photos only later. But for the fact that the boat painting could have had more colour saturation they are both very nice.

A quick one again just to contribute. He started out white and black charcoal. When I realized he belonged in the water media challenge he was embellished with some watercolour. Hope that’s okay. He is done on brown craft paper and is about 7x 5 1/2”.

Txomsy, I really like the texture on the paper. The boat is nicely done. I am working on that one too, and am fussing over it way too much.

Sandra, lovely rendering and highlights. The shapes are very well done. That paper would be in pieces by the time I overworked it, so kudos to you.

Finally made it before the end of the year! This is a watercolor on Baohong Academy, 140 CP, 8 x 11. The numbers were just too much for me to tackle.

Grapes, loving your gouache bear; the medium fits the subject so well.

Txomsy, thanks for hosting and for showing us the paper and how it responds. Cool geometric lines in the two buildings. Your Zara paper is interesting and rendered a good boat plus reflections.

Sanlynn, clever save on the charcoal bear!

Joy, that is a pretty nice reds and blues, etc., hues in your boat scene. Very tranquil!

Joy, I thought I would show you the craft paper I’ve been working with lately. It does buckle with too much water. I really like it for pastel and graphite. If it buckles it will straighten out with a bit of ironing. It’s really reasonably priced.

Sanlynn - like your charcoal/watercolor bear!

Sanlynn, thank you for the picture. You seem to have the magic touch for everything. It doesn't give a weight of the paper, but I'm sure it is great for dry media. I use so (too) much water, so any lighter weight mixed media pads, etc. have only caused me frustration.

Sanlynn, your bear is amazing too. And the use of Kraft paper suits it very well.

Joy, your boat is homonym to look at, a real joy. Love the colors and reflections.

And, all, I am amazed any of you could find the time to do anything in these dates.

I thought I would have time, specially with the holidays, but I'm still finishing the last preparations for tonight's dinner, and there is still left the "pre-dinner" beers and hanging around; this month is turning out endless. Around here -EU- this is heavy family and friends time, I suppose it must be similar in many other places, with meals, dinners and parties with neighbors, colleagues, co-workers, friends and family branches all the month along. I think the best way to describe it is "exhilaratingly exhausting".
