Beautiful Grapes. 👌 For a moment I felt swept away from the rainy uk to a cabin in Finland.. bliss 💆‍♀️🌿🏚️ thanks for the escape ..

I showed my hubby your painting which he liked too and he asked me which region you're in, Grapes? He spent quite a bit of time in Finland (Jyväskylä, Kuhmoinen, Porvoo and near the artic circle) when he was younger.

Wow, he then knows my country well. I'm now in Helsinki. I've never (yet) been to UK but last month I was in Ireland painting sheep 🐑 🐑 😁. The both cabin lake paintings are painted about 100 km south of Jyväskylä.

Yeh he had a Finnish friend and Finnish ex girlfriend so spent a lot of time there. Oh he's also been to Helsinki lol. He saw the millennium in in Jyväskylä. I let him know where you are.

Yes, I think I saw some pictures when I first joined here, of your trip to Ireland.. Wexford.. was that right? My parents are Irish and I have an aunt in Wexford. Did you enjoy it?

Yes, I was in Wexford. I enjoyed my trip a lot but as our painting locations changed to a new one every day, it was too intense. So, now I have a pile of Irish pleinairs to finish. Nice to hear your aunt lives in Wexford and that your parents are Irish. 🇮🇪 💕

Gorgeous plein air, Grapes! You really made the most of that beautiful location. I like how there are a few glimpses of the underpainting showing through, especially in the sky. My husband and I have watched a few Finnish TV series and we’ve learned to say kiitos and miksi. It’s not a big Finnish vocabulary but it’s a start!

Donna, thanks so much!
Yes, those are the words 👍 but our language is hard to learn with many odd words. I always wondered why do we speak so different to other Europeans. Imagine, my husband has lived here for 25 yrs and still doesn't speak more Finnish than you! He uses English at work.

We have a great interest in foreign series and watch them almost exclusively. Could you recommend any? Love, love, love Scandinavian noir and we are watching the last season of Forbrydelsen now.

Donna, thanks so much!

I have studied German and French, and got to use a fair bit of it recently when on holiday, especially the German. Even though I was not in Germany, I met a lot of German tourists in the UK, Netherlands, and Iceland. Language are so fascinating to me! The German helped a bit with Dutch, but minimally with Icelandic and Norwegian. I would love to go to Finland. So, Finnish is quite different to other Nordic languages?

Joy, I can recommend 'Morden i Sandhamn' which I'm watching right now. The main characters are the male actor from Norway and the lady from Sweden. 👍 I used to watch only series and movies from US but now also plenty from UK, France, Ireland and from Spain, of course.
There's one serie called 'Beforeigners' which I watched while back. The main actor is the same Norwegian guy as in the Sandhamn serie but the female actress is from Finland. Not sure if you like that kind of series, you might check it out.
Yes, the language is noticably different.

Since this is OT from your painting, I really appreciate your answer! Beforeigners sounds kind of sci-fi and we prefer dramas and mysteries. Morden I Sandhamn has been on my list for years, and has had many seasons. One of the libraries to which I belong has it on their available streaming shows. Karppi and Sorjonen look good, also.

I am getting organized, bit by bit, after several weeks away. Still have to transfer the photos from the camera, and hopefully will have some good refs for painting.

I think it's ok to talk here about other stuff, too, because the threads are so quiet with random new posts. 👍

Yeah, in any forum, there seems to be just a few heavy contributors. It amazes me that many can create such quality work on a regular basis. I am very slow and have a lot of other interests. Even though I am using it for education, art, finances, travel planning etc. the internet can be a major time suck. Since I did not want to pay for the internet and barely use it (or be tempted to use it too much) on the ship, I did not have it for several weeks and didn't really miss it. They had a daily newsletter for us, and I am not the type to follow the news and be perpetually outraged. Since I cannot change what others are doing, I just do the best I can in my own life.
