A cityscape that started long time ago as a pleinair in Cádiz, Spain but finished in the last couple of days in the studio. It was bothering me that I wasn't able to finish it on location, maybe I was tired after all it was the second pleinair of that day. I'm glad I found strength to work more on it now.
"Cádiz", oil on oil paper, 20x30 cm.

This is really beautiful Grapes. A different style than I've seen from you, i like both but this style really works here. I keep meaning to ask, do you see your paintings? You seem so prolific.

Nice piece Grapes! You did a good job resolving that. And it is nice feeling to finally finish something even if it took years. I still have some waiting for me…..

If you mean "sell" then answer is yes, the last two ones I sold in August, a still life and a local landscape. Thanks for your comment, Jade!

PB, thank you so much! It's sometimes so hard to figure out how to finish certain paintings! Hope you get to finish some too. It can be rewarding.

Wayne, thanks so much!
I have had trouble with cityscapes but lately I go to places that mostly have only city (not much nature) and I feel like I want to paint those views too. To have a memory of the place. So this is good practice to get better.

You must be happy to have finished this, Grapes, and it’s really beautiful! I’m sure your plein air start helped you preserve the feeling of being there.

I can see the good plein air bones in the finished piece, so much better than a photo alone. Thanks for sharing that, Grapes!

Donna, I actually did surprisingly lot of drawing on that pleinair despite the short time I was there.

I almost threw this pleinair to bin by the big wall but am now glad l didn't.

Oh, I think this is excellent! I really like the overall composition, and highlights on the roof areas.

Joy, thank you! 😊
I fixed the composition a little bit from the pleinair.
Jo, thank you!😀
The fact that I did quite a lot of drawing in the original pleinair helped tremendously finishing it!

Oh, I’m so glad you didn’t throw that out Grapes. I’ve almost done the same. I waited years and then found paintings I had abandoned and I decided to finish them. And this time it wasn’t a problem. Not only did I have fresh eyes for the piece, but really it was all the art I had been doing in between over the years that made me more proficient.
I could easily solve the problems of those earlier paintings. You did a great job resolving yours. Thanks for sharing the before and after too. I think it really helps people who are learning or are struggling. They can see we all have those paintings/problems and later we can go back and complete it
Congratulations on selling two pieces!!🎉🎉🎉🙌🏻

PB, thank you so much for your encouragement and comment! Thanks for the congratulations.

I think that's what happened to me, too. After yrs. later and more practice gave me ability to return to work on an old painting. You know what .. even the top world class super star painters get disaster paintings done every now and then. I just saw that happen in Ireland this summer to one real good painter, and actually this painter is my painting teacher from years back.

Exactly, and it may not happen very often but it does happen to all artists. And it has to happen. Not just because we all make mistakes, but we’re hopefully pushing ourselves to try something different/ new or try something more. And a lot of people see people who are very good at making art and then they get too discouraged to go through the beginner stages. I really try to encourage them because we all started at the beginning. Some of us just did it sooner and we have just done it longer. Some have had much more time to develop. You have to stick with it and you have to practice. Be a bit fearless. We will go through phases. But like learning anything else, you can have a time where you get to a certain level and plateau. But then all of a sudden you’ll jump ahead if you stick with it!!🙂🙂
