I often get the feeling that the prices paid for art of contemporary art stars has as much to do with the actual merit of the work as does the fame and fortune of the Kardashians or other pop stars.

Of course, you can't blame the artists... and which of us would turn down such prices?

In this instance and despite my general cynicism I want to believe that whoever paid for it paid the sum for charity. Doesn't hurt for them that they now own a Banksy (which in the future they might be able to sell for more $$$... arggg the cynic is waking up so I'll just stop right here)
