I am finding my way but I can't explain all the differences from oil and acrylic to a point they would help anyone else. To me it all boils down to feel. I now make my mixtures to get a consistency of how the mixture feels right when it's coming off the brush or knife. As for the way I paint I would call it impressionism as it's all about broken color and light. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone here can correct my thoughts.

It’s great to see the close-up so I can study the variety of strokes and marks you made. I’d say this is Impressionism too - you define the subject but not like a camera would. I’m curious, Wayne, was this always your painting style or has it evolved to be like this over the years?

Thank you Donna. Oh my, how I have evolved. I think it came about more out of desperation. I always drifted from this to that. I think most of my learning came from my making abstracts. The freedom to do what I wanted to do opened doors to things I could do. Much like your little abscraps I had a new freedom. I think a turning moment was a video by Ulrich Glieter a Russian Impressionist. It was a plein air demo on utube and he kept applying strokes till he got what he wanted. That’s basically all I do. I block in the big shapes and values and then keep adding strokes without making mud untill I am happy with what the paint shows. Stepping back is imperative as we see differently close up. ie … the close up on this piece. It is so different when viewed from a distance. example would be no preconceptions of want it will be except flowers in a pot.

Actually Ulrich Glieter is German and not Russian. He just paints like a Russian.

I read a little about Herr Gleiter and he studied in Russia as well as in Germany so the Russian influence is authentic. I can see why you admire his style so much, Wayne, and I see a lot of his loose, juicy brush strokes in your work. This piece is stunning! The way the flowers dissolve into the soft background is so beautiful and the texture on the edge of the table brings it to life. You seem to have adapted to acrylics amazingly well!

Thank you Donna and Jade. I think I’ve errored off coarse a little as I find I am fancy finishing a lot more than needed. I noticed that today so tomorrow’s post will still be fussed at. It’s the Russian Impressionism that I really like as it’s unfinished but has all that is needed for the viewer to finish it.

Thanks Donna. That was exasperation. I couldn’t get my intended color to work. I guess it was the wrong value.
