I scribble the pencils on a caran d'ache palette aquarelle and then pick up with a wet brush. A small, rough plastic cutting board would also work.

@Jade, Anne is quite experienced with the Inktense, and has many helpful tips. I also have the Caran d'Ache palette, and find it to be quite useful. No pigment is wasted. I noted on some YT comments that the price has risen, but I did not realize how much. When I bought it a bit more than a year ago, it was about $8 USD, or £6. That was worth it to me at the time. Now it is about £13 on Blick, and £15 on Amazon. Some have commented one can get a small cutting board at a dollar store.

Thanks @Joy yes, I love Anne's inktense work and appreciate her and your tips. It's good to know you find the palette useful too but yep, it's got expensive (it's more than I paid for the pencils) so I'll try and get a small cutting board first.

I replied to Liz on saturday but I see it has not come through. We did have a power
outage at the time and were running on the emergency generator [my computer
does not like the generator power !] ... So I'll repeat it now.
