This is a 4.5" x 3" (which, incidentally, is smaller than the screen of a smart phone) watercolour sketch, of an imaginary scene, in an elephant dung paper sketchbook. The inspiration for this sketch came from a demo on YouTube by Vanidas Mangathil.
Thank you Bart.
The size of the paper and its nature forces me to paint in a certain way, and that seems to improve the way I paint. I must remember to do the same when I work larger.
On the plus side, the paper has a very nice texture and is extremely eco friendly. But, as far as watercolour is concerned, I find it quite difficult to use. Perhaps there are other grades of elephant dung paper quite suitable for watercolour painting. I think that the paper that I have would work quite well for dry medium art work.
In the shop, in Sri Lanka, where my wife got this book, it was marketed as a note pad, and not as a sketchbook. The largest size available was A4, I think.
