Abscrap in Red

For lack of a better name. Just a little 6x6 oil and cold wax that I managed to keep abstract for a change. I'm trying to figure out what works for me and I think a very limited palette is key. As much as I love lots of different colors in other people's work I can't seem to pull it off. Scratching through the wax to reveal the colors underneath is good because it's unpredictable and I definitely need those little surprises.

It feels like a cloud,... and not cloud nine. I don't know what number it would be, but there is an ominous, foreboding quality about it that I like.
There are paintings that make you sad because "you're here and wish you could be there"
and paintings that make you happy because "you're here and glad you're not there"
Your painting makes me happy.

Jade, Wayne, Grapes and Hermes - thanks so much for helping me feel like these scraps have potential! I’m trying to get my nerve up to paint on some larger cradled panels and it would be nice to have some sort of general plan.

Bongo, maybe “Not Cloud Nine” should be the title. It’s so interesting that you get an ominous feeling and I wonder how much the red color has to do with that. I just randomly picked two reds to see how they worked together but all the wild fires in my area may have been on my mind. Thanks for your thoughts.

I think they'll work beautifully on larger canvases too, Donna but even though I didn't paint can understand it might need a different approach. Interesting about the wildfires, I hope you're ok where you are. X

JI wonder how much the red color has to do with that.

I think light reds are on the "joyous" side, and deep, dark reds can get "ominous" But I think what made me react were the streaks, drips, coming down like lightning or something and the cragy "clouds" reds don't particularly move me one way or another.
