22x15 watercolor on 140 lb hot press Fabriano/Daniel Smith paints of a simple fruit still life complete with blueberry muffins. I first coated the paper with white opaque watercolor then lightly sketched the plate, etc., and when dry added color. With colored pencils rubbed across sandpaper for texture on the pears, I got some texture that didn't have to be painted.

This is lovely Kay. ❤️💕Makes me want to try watercolor again. I am a miserable failure with it.😞

I love the way you made the colors glow in this, Kay. What is the reason for coating the paper with opaque watercolor first? Does it affect the way the colors lay on the surface?

Beautiful result and color choices! Thanks for sharing the color sanding technique.

Did you have to be really careful not to lift the white opaque layer? It sounds like a layer of gouache first...but the white can cool colors down and your colors are so bright.

An interesting technique and the painting is a great success. :)
