A couple of pots and flowers

Bought some flowers and did them and another plant in watercolor today. It was fun. Also I found that my 185gsm Arches hot press dries completely flat if I wet the backside and tape it down with regular masking tape.

I really like your style, Rikard! These are so vibrant and I like how you made such graceful flower forms in the first one. Wonderful work!

Thank you Donna. I’m thinking I should have made the background slightly less vibrant to compete less with the subject. Next time maybe :)

Hi Rikard. Nice and bright.
On another note, I was shown that dipping the whole sheet of paper quickly into a shallow tray, holding it up to let the water run off, then tape the top edge to a board gently wiping off water in one direction, stretches the sheet, then tape the last edges. Also not all sheets are sized on both sides that affect wetting etc. I'm sure you know all this tho.....

Yes, that’s what I was taught. And then about 20 years ago when I mentioned it in a class, I was poo poo-ed that that was an old-fashioned way of doing things! That it would remove all the sizing. Apparently that was not supposed to be a good thing? I didn’t know much about it cause I hadn’t done a lot of watercolour myself at the time. Now I just tape them down dry. My original art teacher came out of a very good art school in the 60s or 70s and he knew his stuff. He would take the paper and swish it around and a large sink. A big piece your bathtub works great. And then it was stapled to a board. Later, you would carefully take an exact knife and cut the piece of paper out after it dried. And then you would remove the staples and the remaining bit of paper off your board to use in the future. It really did cut down on the paper rising up if you were doing a lot of washes.
