Thank you all for the warm welcome !

As I mentioned in the introduction section , I am a newbie to art . In learning I have watched a few videos on how to , in doing so , set about practising .

One particular piece of art caught my attention and I wanted to try and paint it using acryilics .

This scene is probably a cliche for most of you and a simple task but for beginners it is kinda daunting . This scene is of course the big wave .

So anyway , after the third attempt I have something that looks a bit like a big wave .🫡

Here is my practice piece :

I love it! I like the rising bubbles as the wave crashes, and the colours are beautiful.
Thanks , I think there is room for improvement though . I did have it looking slightly better but caught a drip off my brush which messed up the inner wave a bit, I lost the inner curvature . :(

It's definitely a BIG wave, and you did a nice job with the horizon in the background with more waves and the shoreline. Good straight horizontal lines. Large bodies of water can be tricky!

Don't sweat that inner wave - I don't think I would have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it. ;) It looks good to me! Paint another one if you want, it might seem like it comes more easily. Lots of practice = fun! With some improvement and growing confidence in yourself. :)

Thank you for the comments , you are too kind !

I can't paint another one at the moment , unfortunatetly I've ran out of materials and I am waiting on an order to arrive .I've ordered a cheapy set of 12ml oils with my supplies , thinking of trying an oil version of this .

I've pretty much got the technique of painting waves worked out , I feel I still need to improve the fine art quality though , adding more intricate detail .

I'm struggling at the moment to paint bigger canvases , things don't look right when I try to paint bigger .

Or is this just my own perception and worrying about about how much paint I use ?

Here is a bigger 12*12 painting I did and scrapped because it didn't look right too me !

That’s a nice wave for a newbie or anyone! I’m too chicken to paint much water but your wave has motion and energy. I’d love to have the confidence to paint really big but 12x12 is it for me so far. I have a large new canvas sitting in my closet and I try not to look at it because it scares me, haha.

I like that wave painting. Don’t feel you have to explain yourself if you’re just a beginner. We were all beginners. Some days we feel like we go backwards and some days we feel like we go forward. Your painting has a beautiful colour and texture. I think you have ability and you’re not afraid to go for it, so you’re gonna move ahead pretty quickly at this rate.🙂
Make sure you never paint flat because it’ll warp perspective. And also perspective is something that’s a little tricky to learn, but there’s lots of help online about that. Once you have some guidance, it’s not too bad. And learning to actually see what you’re looking at is the biggest thing to learn. Not what you think it should look like.

Thank you , it is a big wave on a small canvas , 6*5'' . I've tried a bigger wave on a bigger canvas but it just didn't look right too me . Perhaps in more time when I gain more ability , I'll try a bigger canvas again .

Thank you for your kind comments .

This is super for a first! The more you paint the easier it gets. Have fun. A friend practices on the inside of cereal boxes or paper sacks. Sketching helps me. It helps me to see and be more accurate with a brush. Just keep at it!!
