I've had to stay close by my car when doing plein air because I didn't have a backpack, just kept supplies next to me in a cardboard box. Places (still in city) that I want to paint I won't be able to park close and will require a short hike up hills etc.
So I got a $10. book-bag-back pack - since I know it'll get covered with paint. All my gear - including painting support, wet panel carrier, water, paints, brushes, washer - everything - comes to 17 pounds - 5 for the backpack and 12 for Yarka. I don't know how far off from typical that is. But since I'm not hiking miles in the woods I'm not too concerned about it.
