16th Ave E - oil and ink on (very) cheap 12"x12" stretched canvas

This was an experiment painting on a $1 canvas without adding more gesso. Don't do it, the canvas is okay but needs more gesso than it comes with. I also experimented with using alcohol inks as a glaze. Only had yellow and used it on the building and greenery. Really brought out the colors.

based on a snapshot I took . Those aren't cranes in the b.g. but cell towers.

Great experiment. Keep a watch on the yellow over time and let us know if it stays. Very interesting.

Thanks Kay, Sno.

I'm confident the ink will hold, but I'm wondering about fading? Are alcohol inks lightfast?

I like your take on the scene, especially the way you weren’t a slave to the colors of the photo. I’m curious about the inks too and hope they won’t fade.

Thanks Donna. Looks like alcohol inks are NOT lightfast... but some colors are more stable than others and using UV protection and keeping out of direct sunlight can delay/stop fading. Still trying to find out how long of a delay -- if it could last the lifetime of the buyer that IMO would be good enough.

Think about it, how many things do you buy that have a lifetime guarantee? Or a 20 year, or a 10 year? And if they do, they are amortized so the longer it lasts the less percent of the purchase is returned.

Archival doesn't mean in perpetuity.

Wonderful scene! I always love your sky colors.

Did you/can you apply a UV protective spray over these inks? Agreed that they're not going to offer a forever protection, but a decent coating + no direct sunlight should get darn near anything a fair 20 years.

I viewed this on my phone last night and loved it. Now I see it on my desktop and it's even more amazing. Great job on this one. I love the colors. ♥️
