    Two today

Thanks Joy, Donna, Jo, Murry and Wayne. First one did exactly what I intended. Not easy to simplify a whole marina scene at all. Just wanted fresh, stylized and simple. The reason for these was that I felt I had fallen into a rut with my regular paintings, so decided to go back to WC & ink...

    Sunset Seascape in Watercolor

And the reason you don't paint landscapes? Seems you have a knack.

Love your work, Balaji! I don't think any image nor location is safe from your pen. You nail 'em good.

Gray Cat using Daniel Smith's Moonglow.

Really really good! You captured the cat's eyes and expression masterfully. I like your choice of WC. As to the scrunched right side of the cat, you can readily expand that a bit and round it with darks.

    Old paint

Just to be clear, this painting is NOT a great example of the strengths of Ceracolors. This medium comes in tubes just like oil, gouache, WC, acrylic. While you can use heat with it to set a layer or the final product, you do not need to use heat at all. It is not a true encaustic (though it...

Cuni is the European version. Those are Spanish. Ceracolors are made in Northern California.

    Old paint

Came back to try Ceracolors again. Loved that medium but had left it alone for about 7 years. Was bummed that some of the paints had dried in their tubes, but had enough colors to pull off something. Today's painting at Mori Point in Pacifica CA. Ceracolors on panel (cold water soluble wax...

    I am truly thankful for

Had never heard of that greengrocer's apostrophe. OK, since this thread has been hijacked already, some of my pet peeves in language perversion are already so widely accepted that I have to hide my gritted teeth. Forgive me if I offend any of you with my elderly regional American English stuff...

    I am truly thankful for

Yeah, polling my friends around here at various galleries, most of the sales are for cheap gifts at best. Not the best sign for the art market at the lower end this year. People have zipped their wallets shut (though not their mouths) due to the uncertainty in the economic and political spheres...

    I am truly thankful for

Just published my latest column encouraging folks to buy locally produced art. Made sure to mention all the area's art collectives that have open house/studios this month and suggested they send out the link to their mailing lists. About the best I can do for our folks around here with "free...

Yes, the article "an" is properly used before vowels, as I was taught too. But these days the language seems to have devolved. Don't get me started!

Thankful for the opportunity to write a column weekly "Bart on Art" in our regional newspaper, the San Mateo Daily Journal. Combining my twin pursuits of art and authorship, I get to explore more of the local scene than I would normally do and share it with thousands in our community. This...

    How to fix this canvas?

I watch Baumgartner Restoration on YT and have seen how he repairs holes in valuable canvases. I wouldn't bother!

    Bluffed

Actually, if you watch some of the earlier instruction videos they note that you can sharpen the crayons for more precise detailing. And I recall seeing a sharpener that had a bowl to catch the scraps, which you can use for watercoloring. But if you want true precision more easily, WC pencils...
