This was sketched six years ago. The first of the covid lockdowns had just started. I decided to use that time to improve my watercolour skills by doing at least one watercolour painting every day while confined to my home.

This one was done on A4 size 300 gsm cold pressed watercolour paper. I sketched this directly in colour (without any preliminary pencil sketch) referring to a photograph of a true incident in Africa.

Oh, my - what a scary moment there! This is a richly colored and beautiful watercolor. Great shading on your elephant. Your surroundings are lush.

Well done! Lockdown had its uses, I guess. ;)

Amazing work done directly in color. I still have to complete a pencil sketch first!

I agree with Terri, it was a scary moment that you painted.

Terri, Anne...Thank you.

Terri...Lockdown certainly had its uses for me. From being very reluctant wielder of a paintbrush, I became eager to do it at the least opportunity.

Anne...I have been sketching directly with pen and ink for many years. Therefore I just needed a nudge to attempt it with a brush too. It is the first few attempts that are difficult. After that, it becomes second nature to do it directly without a preliminary drawing.
