Hi folks, sorry to bombard the site.
In desperation, I'm going through the "isms" and today it's "tonalism" but I guess not up to the masters. The photo does not capture the painting, which is softer and more nuanced.
Gouache on 300gm NOT WC paper 10x15.
From a photo of a stormy day in Portugal.
I'm ok with this, some bits jump colour wise for me, but something is happening, I think.

What a lovely piece. I really admire Murray how you get straight to the point in your work. I think that’s a great ability. Some people can just capture a scene with the minimal fuss. The rest of us are here working this, working that and working every which way. Overworking the heck out of a piece.🙂
Also, I like how well you see values. A lot of us sort of ramp up the hue and then it’s not quite right.
Murray- Tonalism✅

This is really good. I like how you have stormy clouds but they are far away and it is warm and friendly up front. Just a lovely feel.

Hi Paintboss, thanks heaps for the compliments and encouragement. I feel like this worked, some passages I had to over paint, but, yes, it seemed to fall into place. I have always loved the way certain scenes lend themselves to that emotive tonal scene.
Your thoughts have really helped with these explorations.
