Scavenger Hunt from Life #184: Feb 26 - Mar 10

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.
The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/page-10

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.

  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 12 days, with the next hunt starting on the 12th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Jo, I hope your find time to squeeze in some sketching.

Ai, nice to see some flowers in bloom this morning. Nice job on the direct watercolors.

Hi art buddies….

Joan thanks for a great list

I couldn’t get in wet canvas with my old info. I won’t worry about it ….I discovered a group of artists who meet two hrs every thurs to do whatever each one brings to work on….what a blessing. This is what i began working, colored pencil of a candle holder i got just to sketch at goodwill…(it not finished )

Robin, what a great angel candle holder!! How special. I wonder why you couldn't get back into Wet Canvas and we didn't. That's strange. I'm hoping we won't have to go anywhere! I'm glad you found a group of artists to get together every week. Contact with other artists is so important. Where do they meet? Have you met up with them yet?

Here is today's sketch of the results of the blizzard we just had. I had to ride around a bit to find a spot where I could park and sketch. They are still clearing roads and some parking areas haven't really been plowed. I don't want to get stuck somewhere. This was down by a restaurant/marina down by the bay. I was facing away from the water.

Robin: Love your VP of candle holder. Hope you get to do some art with local art buddies.

Joan: Thanks. Beautiful trees and snow scene

Ai, oh my, the black-eyed susans are perfect. We get lots of them here. The pink flower tree is so pretty. Great job on the sketches! Your second trip to the park was well worth it. The yellow flower tree is fantastic. I love all the different things you find to sketch.

Robin, I sent you a message above. How fun to find a group .. that is super fine. The angel candle holder is so special. Beautiful. Hope we get to stay here.

Joan, mmm, love the tree/shrubs. I just can't fathom snow anymore. It looks great in your sketches. I'm smiling.

I sketched outside in the mobile studio while Gene did his PT. It was warm but a breeze helped.
Number 1 market or shop - the corner of the James Avery store next to PT. In the small Canson regular paper book that is now finished! With the Ohuhu 0.3 pen Book 5.5 x 8.5 inches
Number 2 tree or shrub - Next to the Avery store in the Ohuhu Mix Media sketchbook with an Ohuhu 0.3, only about 7 pages left in this sketchbook, 10 x 7.6 inches

Ai, thanks. Do those yellow trees bloom all year? You made them look s pretty! Nice!! You find such great flowers with for me are so nice to see since we are surrounded by snow.

Jo, lol I can't fathom snow any more either. Glad to see you sketched outdoors. Nice textures in the sketch of the market. Your trees give a nice balance to the tall light pole. We are supposed to have warmer weather today and tomorrow (up to 50°). That should make some of the piles of snow melt a little faster.

Joan: Thanks. These yellow flower tree can bloom more than one time a year, if the weather permits. The bloom lasts about 2 weeks.

Ai, it must be pretty to have them bloom so often and last for so long.

Parts of the bay are still frozen, especially around the docks.
