Ned : Thanks. love your mobile studio and dashboard and the ocean view

Jo: Thanks.. Nice sketch of the building and the plant scene...the details of shrubs are really nice.

Ai, I like how you captured the curve of the bar. Hope all is well. Nicely captured fruit. I'm not a banana fan so we never have them around. The citrus bush is more my speed. I would think it must smell nice. I remember driving past the orange groves by my sister in California and how fragrant it always was.

Ned, I see you conveniently used your mobile studio for your sketch. You even included a bit of the inside too! It helps when the weather doesn't cooperate.

Jo, glad you got out and were able to sketch. I like the "new" building. Good texture in your tree sketch.

Not as much sketching for me lately. I've been watching a lot of the Olympics and the days that the figure skaters have been on I've been glued to the TV. Luckily it is almost over and my life can go back to normal. lol

Here's a bit I did get done lately. My sketch group is part of the Patchogue Arts Council which is celebrating their 18th anniversary. They had a celebration at a local bar/restaurant the other night on our sketch night. We had a model (Hector) who posed in the back of the bar. There was music and a lot of people. I would have liked to sketch the musicians too, but we were too busy in the back.

Ned, Joan, Jo: Thanks.

Joan: Wonderful people sketch. Happy 18th art group anniversary !!! Amazing story, I bet.

Ai, thanks. Here is a photo of Hector looking at my sketches. He models for us a lot and always takes photos of all the sketches. Aside from the sketch group I don't do a lot with this art group. They are more contemporary art than I do.

We had rain most of today but I sat in a parking lot when I went to the supermarket and did a few sketches.

Ai, the cafe looks so lush and tropical. Great job!

Hi, Ned!

I have been wanting to get up to Port Jeff to their ice rink. I figured today would be a good time before the predicted blizzard arrives.

Jo -- I like your sketches and particularly the tree "nature". Sometimes sketches can look more interesting than the tree itself, with those branches coming off the sides it has character.

Ai -- good job on the bananas, I think that citrus might be a kumquat but it could be a calamondin ( from last hunt! ). The quick trees sketch is almost like a gesture sketch.. the form comes through. Love the watercolor at the cafe.

Fletch -- the glass in the glasses looks great!

Joan -- Hector looks happy! The van and car have character like Fletch's did.. the perspective is not like a photo and emphasizes what we see. A photo would be extremely boring but the sketch isn't :) The skaters are just great. Stay safe!

We've got weather coming too, but just rain. I got out today since we'll probably be inside for a few days. Also means it's almost time to go fishing up north because the steelhead go up the river when it rises enough. I'll watch the river level and go sometime next week.

#2 outdoors This place is called "Two Rock", a landmark along the valley that settlers and native americans traveled.

#3 horse sub cow We say "art from life" but this was not "draw what you see". It was "make a pencil outline as fast as you can and then finish with the pen..." The one on the right had its rear end facing me after a minute, and they all left before I was done. I got mixed up between the black and white on the middle one :)

Jo, thanks for your positive thoughts. Hope the snow isn't as bad as they are predicting. Right now here they are saying 18-25 inches with blizzard conditions at times. Anyone else affected by this storm, stay safe.

Ned, thanks. I sketched the skaters from a very comfy couch on the second floor of the community building in Port Jeff. It is perfect because all the skaters and their families are downstairs and it is warm and quiet upstairs. Only 2 people came upstairs while I was sketching. It is a good spot...much more comfortable than my mobile studio. Love your sketch of the "Two Rock." Your cows are super! Nobody would notice if you moved around a spot or two. You nailed the shapes of the cows. Have a great time if you head up north. Stay dry in your storm.

Ai - love the citrus plant, the bar and the pond. All so very different in style.

Joan - People sketches are great but the one of Hector seems to have more life. Think it i# the eyes that do it. Car and van are great line work. The skaters is great. You really captured the action.

Ned - Two Rock is a great landscape ink sketch. Enjoyed the bit of history on the area. Beautiful photo too. Cows are cool and look like they were fun to draw.

All in the path of the the snow..stay safe

Keep sketching and learning
Fletch

Ai, the bananas are so fluid and graceful, hard to get the "real" look. The plant is lovely. I like the flow of the branches on the tree as well. Thanks. The plantiful cafe is fun. You have so many unique places to eat.

Joan, Hector looks relaxed. Fun to have music along with our sketching. Congrats on the anniversary. Fun to see the photo and you. The van and car show your line work. Nice. The skating rink full of people is so full of excitement and movement. Whoot!

Fletch, wow on the glasses, great shadowing and lines. The lemon is gorgeous, could use it in a Margarita. Of course I love the Appaloosa. Graceful and action combined!

Ned, thanks so much. I like doing the pine trees. Two Rock is unique and interesting. Appreciate the photos. The cows are great. You may have read that my mom and dad worked on ranches when I was growing up. She named all the cows and calves .. sometimes when they were born like Easter or May. Good memories. Thanks.

I didn't sketch. I had an elevated heart rate and went to the ER. A shot of medicine and all in sync again. They send me home with no ill affects. Probably stress and dehydration. No more margaritas or caffeine. Dang as my Oklahoma friend says. Another trip to Austin tomorrow for Gene's results of last tests, so may not sketch yet again. All good here otherwise. Cool day but we did sit on the porch for a few minutes.

An update from storm central. Checking out the snow on my patio this morning...18 inches on the patio railing and 18 inches on the ground so far. It is still snowing and blowing...blizzard conditions. Here's the view of me on my patio and one from my garage looking out into the parking lot. My sister designed the sweatshirt for me eons ago and she was amazed this morning that I still have it. It was perfect for this storm...says "Think summer" just in case you can't make out the message. lol Off to have breakfast. Maybe I'll get some indoor sketching/painting done today since I won't be going anywhere.

Fletch, thanks for the comments. Nice work on the horse. I drove by a few equestrian centers the other day, but they didn't have any horses outside.

Ai, good morning.

Jo, thanks so much. Glad they were able to regulate your heart. That must have been scary.
