Scavenger Hunt from Life #181: Jan 21 - Feb 2

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.
The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/page-10

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.

  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 12 days, with the next hunt starting on the 12th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Ai, hi!

Robin, congrats on being the first to post. Fun to see you use different art materials. Is that a dinosaur pencil topper? You have such cute items to sketch and I love the great colors in this!

Ned, good to see your face. Hope you get a chance to sketch and join us that way too.

I did this sketch as quickly as I could from my mobile studio while the car was running I was able to keep warm.
1 - vehicle - ink

Then I decided to find an indoor location to sketch. I went to the local Panera because I know that I can usually get a table facing the counter. I sat in a small booth and sketched on my iPad while I was sipping my decaf coffee. Still having trouble merging the layers. Sometimes it works if I pinch them and sometimes it doesn't.

2 - something with arms (man on the right) - Procreate
3 - something with legs (little boy on the left)
4 - something smooth (tiles and front of the counter)

Joan, thank you for the list.

Robin, great start. What fun art materials. The markers provided lovely colors. Applause!!

Hi Ned, hope to see some sketches. It is hard to find time when we are living our lives!

Joan, the truck is amazing. You find super vehicles. The Panera sketch made me smile. Fun to see the young man.

Ai, beautiful flowers. None around here at this time of year.

We went for a check up for Gene in Austin today. I had the time wrong in my head so went an hour early and didn't realize it until we had waited about 30 minutes. Joanna came to take us so we were all tied up most of the morning. Went to lunch at Jimmy Johns, a subway type sandwich place. Yummy bread. No sketches though. Then Joanna and I winterized the outdoor faucets as we are expecting freezing rain this weekend. If we get and ice storm with it we won't go anyplace on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe I can sketch. Ha.

Joan ..amazing digi sketch. So much space in the small format and lots of yummie details. Love the work truck.

Ai sweet delicate flowers, stack of stools looks like fun

JoC- busy days in good company are special. Hope you get to sketch today

Hi Ned

Ai, your flowers have me smiling. :) That's a nice way to start the morning. I like the plastic stools in your sketch, although personally I like seating that has a back rest. Those look like they can be easily pulled up anywhere.

Robin, thanks. I've wanted to sketch a landscaping truck for a while. This one was parked and it looked like it would be there for a while. Next I'm going to look for one that has the hatch down and some workers too.

Ai, large samples of plastic. Very cool. I've never seen any like that in person.

Morning, Robin.

I sketched last night at my computer desk. In the Ohuhu sketchbook with the Ohuhu 0.3 and watercolor. Number 1, smooth - my drink cup My watercolor wash isn't too smooth but the cup is. It is metal.
