#4 sub. seascape with Thai farmer's canal scape...This is my first urban sketching of 2026, unfortunately I forgot to take watercolors with me. So I had to settle with using a brown gel pen, then later bleeds with water. This is our local Bangmod orchard canal network, not far from my home.

Want to get back into sketching regularly so…

JoC - great job!! of portraying an enigma, and thank you for the photo of the thingie.

Joan - the snow scene is cooling and has interesting feel of motion....I like it, I like it!!! Too the way you position the mushrooms is fun. The mansion behind the gate is interesting opposite the cloud/sea . One is heavy detail and closed and the cloud/sea is raw open power.

Ai - phew, you two are serious about your contribution. your drawing is good view of a complicated procedure. Thank you for sharing. Adorable tent/sunflower sketch. Beautiful canal environment. Sketch is nice , serene and simply relaxing to look at and thanks for the photo....

Fletch-sweet little ditty of the washing machine! Ditto here on the desire
to sketch regularly. Good New year's resolution....

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Fletch, I was going to do a similar view. Nice sketch! Hope you get back into sketching.

Robin, thanks for commenting on my sketches. Hope your new year is off to a good start.

I didn't go out to sketch today, but didn't want the first day of the new year to pass without a sketch so here goes.

7 - sub for cupcake - watercolors and ink

joe1lt, hi there! Thank you. Happy New Year again.

Jade, same to you and thanks.

Joan, love the ironwork fence and gate. Nice work on the wreaths and greenery. Nice gate lamps. Your seascape is great, love the clouds with the rays coming down. Lovely.Your first day sketch of the goodies is so nice. Beautiful Christmasy plate.

Ai, Nice you got a sketch in on the 1st. I like it with the hatching lines.

Fletch, the washer is amazing. We have a front loader now. Hmmm.

I should sketch now.

Ai - Santa was cute. What a great gift to community. Sunflowers are one of Sharon’s favorites. Nicely done. Like the ink with washes. It has a moody Look.

Robin - Clever sketch on quilt.

Joan - Sledding hill made me smile. The mansion snow scene is great. Going to use your snowy tree as a reference. Mushrooms do look plump and yummy.like the wrought iron gate. Seascape is a great cloud study. All those treats look delicious on Christmasy plate. I saw the words “sub for bourbon” and expected wine but not vermouth. 😎

Jo - you nailed the colors on the doodad.

Thanks to all for nice comments on washer sketch.

Keep sketching and listening
Fletch

Today's effort
#2 ziplock - borrowed idea from Joan. Couple of grades of graphite and lots of kneaded eraser. Not as easy as the first idea seemed.. 😎

Fletch, thanks. The vermouth was still on the counter from Jerry's New Year's Eve martinis. It was colorful so I used it. You handled the translucent bag nicely. I always like the colorful stripes on mine.

Ours only have a very thin red and very thin blue line but one i grabbed as a single pale ugly muted green. The label on the vermouth reminded me of some logo (red circle with blue bar across)

Joan, what fun Ziploc bags. Clever look at them. Love the vermouth. I also expected wine or beer.
Fletch, your bag is well done. So hard to do that. You are right, it seems simple, but......

Thanks, all.
I sketched at PT for Gene. I had my bag but had taken the sketchbooks out to post the last sketches from there. So sketched on my iPhone with my fingers in the App, Brushes. I worked on it about 20 minutes. Not a very realistic background of the buildings across the way.
Number 2 ironwork - the trash bins/baskets are iron painted green. Heavy duty for the sort of strip mall or outdoor mall?? Ross, Best Buy, Lowes, restaurants, AT&T (which I find that internet is so poor there, looks like AT&T would boost it up for their store. Ha.) and more. (I edited the image, I put up the one before I finished.)
